Game Engine: Sierra's Creative Interpreter (SCI)

Group Description

While Sierra's AGI had demonstrated surprising legs, having been initially conceived for the PCjr within a matter of a few years it found itself underequipped to take advantage of a hardware revolution of expanded graphics and sound capabilities. Jeff Stephenson was called upon to provide a game-making framework for the current and future markets, and he provided an object-oriented scripting language, initially entitled the LSCI, for Large-model Script Code Interpreter, soon re-styled Sierra's Creative Interpreter.

It was in continuous development, with five major versions, from 1988 (the first SCI release King's Quest 4, also variantly released as Sierra's final AGI game) through to 1996.
