Game Engine: Sierra's Creative Interpreter (SCI)
Group DescriptionBecause Sierra's previous AGI engine had been initially conceived for the PCjr, it found itself under-equipped to take advantage of a hardware revolution several years later, allowing expanded graphics and sound capabilities. Jeff Stephenson was therefore called upon to provide a game-making framework for current and future markets. This resulted in an object-oriented scripting language, initially entitled the LSCI (Large-model Script Code Interpreter), that was soon re-titled as Sierra's Creative Interpreter.
SCI was in continuous development for eight years, with five major versions, from 1988 to 1996.
