A third-person shooter IP from Nintendo, which takes place in a world where marine life has evolved to live on land. The games revolve around the dominant species of this society, Inklings, who can transform between humanoid and squid form. Young Inklings compete in team sports that involve using their ink to cover turf and "splat" opponents, which make up the main gameplay in multiplayer. Singleplayer campaigns introduce Octarians, who have been at war with Inklings over land and resources; the player is often cast in the role of an Inkling agent tasked with fighting off Octarian attacks.
