I can honestly say, despite the control fiasco, that James Bond 007: Blood Stone took me by surprise. Bizarre Creations did a good job at creating an adrenaline packed Bond experience that is on key with today’s modern Bond. It’s full of satisfying melee combat, signature Bond moments, great cover combat, pretty visuals and awesome driving sequences. It does feature that classic Bond mood to a point and is definitely worth a play through for single player experience.

Blood Stone is an excellent addition to the Bond library, there is however room for improvement to make the title truly standout on all fronts.

When it hits those high notes--which it does more often than not--Blood Stone is a quality action game. From exciting driving to fast-paced and stylish combat, Blood Stone is an enjoyable foray into the world of James Bond in spite of its flaws.

James Bond: Blood Stone is an action packed game which doesn’t let its grip loosen from start to finish. It certainly has its flaws of that there is no doubt, however if you are looking for an authentic Bond experience, then this is the game for you.

Stylish combat and white-knuckle driving make this an enjoyable James Bond adventure, despite some pacing issues.

If there's one area where Blood Stone is a bit disappointing, it's that everything that it does, while well-made and thoroughly polished, is fairly basic. A few minutes into the game and you've basically seen almost all of the major mechanics of the game, from the basic shooting to the "focus shot" one-hit kills you earn for takedowns. The weapon selection doesn't change much from the outset, so it's only what 007 is doing in the later levels that keep the game fresh. And to Bizarre's credit, the six-hour single player campaign actually keeps things pretty varied. Blood Stone's narrative, which follows Bond tracking a bioweapon attack to its source, is pretty basic as well. Still, Daniel Craig and Judi Dench's voicework is excellent, and it's nice to see more of the cold, borderline-sociopathic edge Craig has brought to 007. Needless to say, you won't see MI6's top agent getting too cozy with any ladies this time—it's all espionage on display here.

Overall, I enjoyed Blood Stone for what is was: a short but enjoyable third-person action game set in between the most recent Bond flick and the next one. I wouldn't recommend a buy, not at full price, and if you're deciding between this and Goldeneye, then the latter is the better bet. I will say that this game can most likely be found for cheap, and if you can avoid paying the full price, then it''ll provide a few hours of enjoyment to pass the time until the next Bond flick. Given the recent legal entanglements going on at MGM, who knows when that will be.

It's difficult to think of a single thing that Blood Stone, the latest 007 game in a long line of 007 games, does wrong. It remains technically polished throughout. It has a reasonable number of stages that span a variety of interesting locations. There are the expected explosions, the required moment where Bond wakes up with a beautiful woman in his bed, and there are the usual car chases and fistfights. Naturally, there also are diabolical villains, sneaky betrayals and voice work from familiar celebrities such as Judi Dench and Daniel Craig, the current face of Bond. In short, all of the right bases are expertly covered and the result is a very good game.

If you’re sorely missing Bond in his movie appearances, then this really is the next best thing as far as story goes. You’ll be entertained by all your favourite Bond voices, and the graphics that go with them will sit nicely with your eyes, it really is a treat for any fan. The gameplay, while fast paced and action packed, is awfully linear and restricted, and any seasoned gamer will find the whole experience a walk through from start to finish. It’s good while it lasts, but if you like your games with added depth and you’re not too fussed about the world of Bond, then your cash is better spent on Vodka Martinis and loose women. A modest double-oh seven out of ten.

The obstacles, angles and general controls don’t have any kind of fluidity issues oh-so-typical of a multiplatform experiences. But on the other hand, Blood Stone doesn’t rise up to its price tag unless you’re so into James Bond you’re wearing George Lazenby boxers.

There are some truly fun parts to the game, but a lot of it, typically during the shooter levels, just didn't feel quite as action-packed as they should have in order to keep me on the edge of my seat and really enjoying the experience. It's sad to say, but that's the feeling I got, and it's because of this that I really can't recommend the Windows version of 007 Blood Stone. If it was a console version, then I would maybe recommend a rental before purchase to see if you get a better experience than I did, but since you can't really rent a PC version of a game, or buy it and trade it in somewhere, then it's probably best for PC gamers to skip this particular title altogether.

Once you play through the campaign there is very little here to bring you back. Without any real variety in the mission objectives, the higher difficulty levels serve no real purpose nor provide any real cognitive challenge, like a certain golden eye did. Oh, and the industry demanded multiplayer mode is here and an afterthought at best, and as expected a virtual ghost-town merely a few weeks after release. So without anyone actually playing the game on-line, there’s no real point delving into the details. With that in mind, the relatively short campaign on offer does little to make Blood Stone an essential purchase. But as an extension of the Daniel Craig Bond-era, this is definitely worth a look for 007 fans - just don’t expect a royale treatment.

Xbox 360Games Radar
Unfortunately, there’s just not enough here to keep you coming back. Once you’ve finished the campaign once, you can play through online modes or take a shot at an even more difficult campaign, but more than likely you’ll follow the Bond-film route and call it quits.

Xbox 360Giant Bomb
Blood Stone isn't bad, but literally every single thing you can find here has been done better elsewhere. Considering there's no shortage of other third-person shooters out there, it's tough to recommend Bond's newest adventure for anything beyond a rental.

WindowsVideo Game Talk
One of the biggest problems with the game is its length, clocking in at about 4 to 6 hours depending on your difficulty preferences. Mix that with a minimalistic multiplayer mode and we have a recipe for a weekend rental rather than a purchase, even though the fact paced action and naturally entertaining story are worth a playthrough for any true fan of Bond. I really enjoyed the ride while it lasted, but anyone that shells out full MSRP is going to feel jilted after the credits roll. Also, those that are looking for a more outlandish Bond experience is going to be disappointed with the more straightforward, realistic approach of Blood Stone.

PlayStation 3Playstation Universe
Even though the game feels flat, predictable and boring, it has its charm in the action and chase sequences. The story is fairly non-existent, and Bond never really settles into his role as stealth-killer extraordinaire. Diehard Bond fans might be able to overlook some of Blood Stone's flaws, but for the rest of us looking for a good third-person action game, there are plenty better on the market.

It's tough to recommend Blood Stone 007 to anyone but the most loyal of Bond fans, and even they should consider passing on this at best very average 007 title.

Sure, there may not be a memorable villain and the story will be long forgotten by most by the end of the game, but everything else is present in James Bond 007: Blood Stone, for instance the fast cars, the sexy ladies, various combat methods, and an all-in-one gadget, makes for an authentic James Bond experience. Unfortunately, it’s not linked to the James Bond universe in a meaningful way (partly due to the missing movie adaptation). Blood Stone is an enjoyable game if you can see through the bland driving action, forgettable story and the shoehorned multiplayer mode, but at the end of the day this ambitious game has a lot of unfulfilled potential that could further add onto the promise that this series has going for itself. Based on the fact that everything present in Blood Stone can be found in other games with a bigger scale, the highest recommendation of trying out the latest Bond outing is a rental.

The often found gloss of the Bond movies is present, but if you dig any further than screenshots or videos the cracks will immediately become apparent: this is simply not a very good game. Avoid Blood Stone at all costs, unless you are really forgiving and desperately love Bond. And this is coming from someone who bought the last two Bond games twice on different systems…just saying.

Blood Stone has a few bright spots, notably driving segments and presentation, but overall, it’s a pretty derivative package. Almost everything here has been done better elsewhere. That said, I still feel like there’s something here - Blood Stone establishes good ground for a future Bond game headed by Bizzare Creations. Players that pick this game up will find a game that is certainly playable, but if you let this pass by, you won’t miss much.

The shelves are full of identical or superior third-person shooters, and while Daniel Craig's taciturn voice work and Richard Jacques' sweeping orchestrations make the rote pop-and-headshot mechanisms seem a little more exciting than they really are, it's not enough to make Blood Stone more than a forgettable weekend diversion.

Blood Stone is not a bad game: it's just a painfully average one. There aren't any majorly broken elements to it, but just because this Stone is relatively polished, doesn't make it a gem. There really isn't anything at all remarkable about it, and even though it's extremely short it still manages to wear out its welcome thanks to its extremely repetitive design. If GoldenEye is indeed the Sean Connery of 007 video games, then Blood Stone is the George Lazenby; not bad, but not good either, and forgettable in almost every way. At just five hours long and lacking in any real innovation or challenge, it won't leave you feeling shaken nor stirred, just shortchanged.

Occasional glimmers of hope with Blood Stone are killed by an unwavering torrent of mediocrity - I haven't even mentioned the throwaway multiplayer mode, for instance, and I think that's for the best. While a crippling lack of ambition serves to dampen any fledgling hopes of entertainment, even the cutthroat aspirations of Katie Waissel couldn't hide the fact Blood Stone is a product built on shaky foundations.

The whole experience feels a little too 2005, as well; relying on typical action game conventions like bullet time and a disappointing close-combat feature that requires little more than a single button press to execute. Sure, you’re playing as James Bond, but you never quite feel like James Bond.
