www.nintendo.com - GameCube:
The third time's the charm. After getting a feel for the Bond property in two earlier games, developer Eurocom and publisher EA hit the bull's-eye with a game that expertly balances a great franchise with the demands of a first-person shooter.
Even though this is an original story, rest assured that it fits the Bond saga as snugly as a tux on Pierce Brosnan. An original story can be even better than a movie knockoff, especially if you like to be surprised by what happens next.
More dazzlingly cinematic than The World Is Not Enough and James Bond: Agent under Fire, NightFire opens with a show-stopping pre-credits sequence that would fit right in with a Bond pic. Paris, New Year's Eve, some bad guys are chasing an agent in a designer cocktail dress and matching red convertible; you get the picture.
From a helicopter, James Bond must take potshots at the baddies, then rappel down, grab the agentress and transfer to his remote-controlled Jag for a wild chase through the streets and by the Loire. Super-simple controls for shooting, driving and deploying gadgets make this sequence the most fun tutorial you've ever played.
Talky cinema sequences slowed down the action in EA's two previous Bond entries. Here, they're a lot more succinct and much better integrated into the game. A few quick exchanges establish the situation and tell you what happens next, then it's off to the races with you.
The 20-plus single-player and multiplayer levels include driving the new Aston Martin V12 Vanquish and even floating weightless in outer space.
Controls
In most on-foot control modes, moving and strafing is done with the Control Stick, while the C-Stick is for turning or looking up or down. The sole exception is Mode Shifter Legacy, in which the Control Stick is for moving and turning, while the C-Stick is for looking up or down and strafing.
This being a Bond game you're laden with many ways of getting around and wreaking mayhem, each with its own control scheme. NightFire constantly shuttles from stealth to blam-blam action to driving to rail-shooter.
When manning a machine gun on a snowmobile, for example, you'll have to remind yourself that the Y Button pivots you in a semicircle -- a few minutes before, the same button enabled you to jump over a balcony.
Oh, and in between you got a unique view from a remote-controlled missile zooming in on a baddie's helicopter. You just use the Control Stick and C-Stick to guide it, but as you do so you have no control of the suddenly very vulnerable Bond.
Bond's many Q-lab gadgets include a wrist watch with a laser, grapple device, stunner device and camera. Many of these gadgets can be upgraded. You scroll through them by pressing Up or Down on the Control Pad and through weapons by pressing Left or Right.
While controls are uniformally tight and the result is a lively, intensely cinematic experience, the game is clearly aimed at the experienced player of first-person shooters.
007 Graphics
For the first time, EA got the rights to use Pierce Brosnan's likeness in a Bond game. However Pierce spent the summer cavorting with Halle Berry on the set of Die Another Day, so an obviously different actor does Bond's voice.
The character models are first-rate. Particle effects from explosions are a blast, and the excellent weather effects include snow filling in Bond's footprints. Like many developers, Eurocom still has the habit of reusing unique items like paintings.
The technology behind facial animation seems to advance with every new game. But as can be seen in the many scenes in which Bond flirts with a beautiful woman, it's still quite a ways from conveying genuine emotion.
Multiplayer Modes
The Multiplayer modes are almost worth the price of admission by themselves. Options include head-to-head, co-operative teams, King of the Hill and Team King of the Hill and Capture the Flag. There are also a good number of unique missions, such as protecting a VIP or racing to find a set of blueprints. The arenas include a blast from the Bond past in Fort Knox (Goldfinger).
Bottom Line
James Bond 007: NightFire is the most polished Bond game yet from EA. Dripping with gorgeous cinematics, richly varied action and a robust multiplayer mode, this is a game that should sate your jones to be the world's coolest secret agent.

www.nintendo.com - Game Boy Advance:
The best-dressed spy in the business returns in an all new first-person shooter for the Game Boy Advance. EA's James Bond 007: NightFire stars Ian Fleming's superspy in an original storyline.
Everything but the Bad Guy's Fluffy Kitty
Incorporating 40 years of the Bond legacy, NightFire features all the 007 mainstays, including dangerous women, state-of-the-art gadgets, high-caliber weaponry and exotic locations around the globe. Modeled closely after the Nintendo GameCube incarnation, players control Bond from a first-person perspective.
Do Things Your Own Way
Each mission is introduced by a briefing from MI6, the British intelligence directorate. While your objectives are set in stone, how you achieve them is not. Each of the nine single-player missions has been designed with nonlinear progression in mind.
Feeling frisky? Try running through the level Rambo-style with guns blazing. You can even pick off enemies from a distance with a scope rifle. If you prefer covert operations, stick to the shadows and try sneaking past guards or taking them out quietly with your laser. You'll be rewarded with different ratings depending on how well you complete a mission.
State of the Art
No international man of mystery is complete without his spy gear. Backed by the legendary Q-lab, Bond has access to more than 15 high-tech gadgets and weapons. Bond is prepared for just about any situation with his laser watch, electro-shock key chain, rocket launcher, machine guns, silencers and signature PP7 pistol.
James Bond 007: NightFire is a technical marvel in itself on the Game Boy Advance. The developers have created a robust 3D graphics engine normally reserved for home consoles. Each surface is fully texture-mapped with excellent lighting effects. The flash of your gun's muzzle will suddenly light up an area.
Digitized voice clips accompany each of the enemies you'll face. A handy memory chip system allows as many as three separate save files for multiple players.
EA has done an excellent job of recreating the Bond movie experience without copying directly from a particular movie. You'll explore towering skyscrapers, underwater grottos and even outer space missions. If think the locations are breathtaking, wait until you meet some of the beautiful Bond women.
Rogue's Gallery
Just like the movies, some women are friendlier than others. Enemies vary greatly from level to level. Your basic stooges block your way in most missions, while other levels are populated by flipping ninja commandos.
The complex controls associated with most first-person shooters have been perfectly mapped to the Game Boy Advance. The shoulder buttons control left and right strafe movement, allowing for perfect circle-strafing. Players can quickly scan their surroundings, fire, reload, swap weapons, duck and jump with the greatest of ease.
EA has set a new standard in the first-person shooter genre on Game Boy Advance.
