2004 Real Football/Soccer is the first game in the Real Soccer series. It is a 2D game with basic controls: three buttons to perform a short pass, a long pass and a shot (attack face), and tackles (defense phase), while the other keys control the movement. Active players not in possession of the ball are automatically selected when they are nearby.

The game is centered around nations and all players are fully licensed. Three game modes are available: Exhibition, International Cup and European Cup. Prior to a game, the duration, difficulty and group can be selected. Each player has a specific position and statistics based on four values: Attack, Defense, Speed and Reaction.
