WindowsGameZebo (Apr 30, 2013) a whole, The 39 Steps is a wonderful adaptation that pays the highest respects to its source material. It would be great to see a few more classics re-skinned in the same manner. Hands up if you want to actually visit Animal Farm, or walk through the grey slums of Oceania with Winston Smith.

Capturing the intrigue and mystery of the original book, The Thirty-Nine Steps is a visual and aural feast for interactive novel fans.
WindowsExaminer (May 08, 2013)
Barring the early game conveyance, The 39 Steps is a brilliant interactive novel. The story is very solid, the music and art all work together. It may not be the longest game, but it is worth your time and money.
WindowsMicro Mart (Apr 15, 2013)
This is a good effort to try to adapt the famous story to another medium. If you've never read the story before or just want to experience it in another format, you should find this a pleasant enough experience. Just do not make the mistake of thinking this is anything more than a beefed up graphic novel.

There are things to admire – charming Lotte Reiniger-inspired animations; a fine soundtrack; some glossy CGI artwork. But I was struck by a sense of the pointlessness of the whole exercise. Why turn such an exciting novel, and what’s more, such a short one, into an interminable hybrid which will please neither fans of the book nor teenage gamers (presumably the app's target market)?
