There’s no getting around it, I have some complaints with Afterfall. One or two early scenes go completely unexplained; the two boss fights don’t really make total sense, and changes that the characters experience can be confusing and hard to follow. But, I still had a good time with it. Afterfall: Insanity gives fans of gritty, horror-action games a whole helping of what they enjoy. Despite its issues with a simplistic combat system and sometimes unintentionally comical cut scenes, the game is otherwise considerably solid. If you enjoy games of this genre, give Afterfall a shot.

For the price, and with the caveat that this is still undergoing work, I think this is a very decent game. Good atmosphere, some good creepy tension, and no bugs or glitches that I could see, unlike what I hear of several recent higher-budget games (Sword of the Stars II, Stronghold 3, I’m looking at you). It certainly lives up to the dev team’s stated aims, and I think they should be very pleased with what they’re achieving on their budget. You can pre-order for a mere $1 at the moment, and I’d recommend doing so – if enough of us do, there’s money going to charity, apart from anything else. Don’t expect a miracle from it, it is rough round the edges and a little lumbering. Do expect a very credible horror experience in a very plausible setting.
Ganz klar: Die Jungs von Intoxicate haben sich Respekt verdient. Ihre Vision eines Horrorspiels wurde von dem Unternehmen Nicolas Games finanziert, und nach fünf Jahren Entwicklungszeit ist nun Afterfall - InSanity erhältlich. Und das Horror-Abenteuer ist wahrlich kein Flop geworden, sondern ein überraschend stimmiges Action-Feuerwerk.

Ambition is probably the most notable trait of Afterfall: InSanity. The Polish, indie, third-person survival horror game wants to be huge affair. It wants to grab you and bury you in its story, thrill you with its close-range melee fights, build a world around you that can drive a franchise and make you question what’s real and what isn't. Not all these things get accomplished, but for my experience with the game, I’ve found myself erring on the side of optimism. Afterfall could use more polish and and is at times a little undercooked, but it scores points for the effort.

De menos a más. Afterfall Insanity no acaba nunca de remontar el vuelo, pero sí logra conforme avanza su experiencia ir mejorando su oferta hasta convertirse en un título discreto pero posiblemente apreciable para los más fans del género. Un título olvidable y no demasiado brillante en ninguna faceta, pero razonablemente efectivo.
There are way too many little things wrong to rank it among the better indie shooters, but this is the first entry in a promised series, so hopefully Intoxicate will get the bugs hammered out in the sequel.

Afterfall: Insanity ci ha lasciato con sensazioni molto contrastanti. Da un lato non possiamo negare di esserci goduti una campagna comunque piacevole, graziata soprattutto da un’ottima atmosfera. Una trama banale, ma comunque godibile, una discreta varietà, l’ottima grafica e qualche spunto interessante di gameplay accrescono il rammarico per un prodotto che dall’altro lato soffre una mancata rifinitura di molteplici aspetti. Controlli legnosi, qualche bug, enigmi banali, animazioni e cut-scene al limite dell’impresentabile ed una longevità scarsa affossano un titolo che avrebbe potuto proporsi come valido esponente di un genere ingiustamente trascurato. Il prezzo budget a cui è possibile acquistarlo, lo rendono comunque un’offerta appetibile nel caso abbiate già giocato e finito i vari Dead Space e compagni, ma sappiate che dovrete chiudere ben più di un occhio per apprezzare quanto di buono questo titolo nasconde sotto un comparto tecnico ed un gameplay claudicanti.

There's no doubt that Afterfall: Insanity does a number of things well, but it's impossible to ignore the lesser elements. Combat is simply not at all interesting, and yet, you spend most of the game shooting, dismembering, and otherwise engaging attackers. The early portions are so uninspired and the story starts so slowly that it's easy to move on to another game and never look back. But the longer you play Afterfall, the more appealing it becomes, and the steady climb to respectability makes you glad you stayed with it. Afterfall: Insanity is an uneven adventure, but it's worth putting up with its problems to discover the good portions hidden below the surface.

Intoxicate versucht mit seinem Mix aus Dead Space, Fallout 3 & Co. echte Schwergewichte zu kopieren, kann dabei allerdings in keinem Bereich wirklich an die großen Vorbilder heranreichen. Keine Frage, das Spiel hat seine (wenigen) guten Momente, für ein Highlight reicht das aber nicht. Mehr Mut zur Eigenständigkeit und zu frischen Ideen hätten Afterfall deutlich aufwerten können, denn handwerklich ist das Ergebnis durchaus solide. Die Umsetzung lässt es aber im Sumpf der Mittelmäßigkeit versinken. Die Stärke der Indie-Szene, ungewöhnliche Ideen, die den Großkonzernen zu riskant sind, umzusetzen, wurde hier konsequent ignoriert.

Alors que Afterfall : InSanity représente un énorme melting-pot empruntant à Fallout, Metro ou bien encore Dead Space, il parvient à s'en sortir convenablement grâce à un bon mélange entre action et réflexion. Plutôt bien construit et amenant quelques idées nouvelles, le jeu tourne néanmoins un peu en rond, au sens propre comme au sens figuré, et se perd dans des mécaniques de jeu trop redondantes. Toutefois, son plus gros défaut reste d'être sorti après Dead Space 2, aujourd'hui disponible à moins de 20 euros. Néanmoins, le titre de Nicolas Games se laisse suivre avec plaisir et saura vous amuser le temps d'un gros après-midi.

Doch wenn es ums Spieldesign und kreative Ideen geht, versagen die Polen im Gegensatz zu vielen ihrer Independent-Kollegen: Das Missionsdesign ist höchstens durchschnittlich und von Wiederholungen und damit Langeweile geprägt, die Rätsel sind größtenteils belanglos und die Kämpfe verkommen spätestens mit dem Einsatz von Schusswaffen zu einer öden Ballerei - auch dank der grenzdebilen KI. Doch hauptsächlich scheitert man daran, eine packende Atmosphäre zu kreieren, die das Blut in den Adern gefrieren lässt. Kontraproduktiv sind auch das regenerative Heilsystem, die unendliche Batterieleistung für die Taschenlampe sowie die schlechten Sprecher in Kombination mit der unpassenden Musik. Was hier alleine mit Psycho-Spielchen im Stil von Eternal Darkness möglich gewesen wäre… Doch leider fehlte Intoxicated entweder der Mut oder die Ideen. Übrig bleibt ein ernüchternder Mix aus Bioshock, Stalker und Dead Space, der weder an die Vorlagen heran reicht noch eigene Glanzpunkte setzt.

Afterfall: Insanity risulta una brutta copia di Dead Space, con una trama troppo semplice e scontata. L’impatto visivo forse è la parte più riuscita di questa produzione, ma siamo su livelli decisamente mediocri, certamente non al passo con gli altri titoli disponibili sul mercato. Ci troviamo di fronte ad un gameplay rozzo e veramente poco ispirato, la cui unica nota positiva è la presenza di diversi minigiochi che aggiungono comunque veramente poco alla già scarsa longevità. Se ci aggiungiamo anche un pessimo doppiaggio, salvato solo in parte dalla colonna sonora, consigliamo il titolo unicamente a chi ama fortemente il genere, ma solo dopo una prova estesa.

Mimo dziesiątek większych wad i setek mniejszych niedoróbek (niewielką część usuwa patch opublikowany na stronie CD-Projektu) właśnie ze względu na specyficzny, niespotykany w polskich tytułach klimat Afterfall Insanity może spodobać się miłośnikom rodzimej fantastyki, a dokładniej - alternatywnych wersji losów i przyszłości Rzeczypospolitej. Jednak z ewentualnym kupnem radzę poczekać do początku roku, kiedy wydawca, CD-Projekt, zwykle urządza duże obniżki cen.

Afterfall: InSanity lze vytknout celou řadu věcí, přesto hra dokázala upoutat pozornost a čas nad ní strávený nemusí být za jistých podmínek (jste skalními fanoušci her typu Dead Space či Resident Evil) promarněný.

Una verdadera lástima, porque el apartado gráfico cumple perfectamente. El juego cuenta con todo tipo de efectos, texturas detalladas, un frame-rate sólido y unos modelados en 3D más que interesantes. Pero todo juego de terror que se precie tiene que saber dotar al conjunto de un grado de ambientación que AfterFall: Insanity no tiene, y por ello se queda en un bonito juego de acción sin chispa, con una historia que debería producir respeto y que acaba decepcionando por culpa de unos personajes planos, sin carisma y una forma de contarnos la historia muy poco inspirada.

It's always tempting to be lenient where indie developers are concerned, and if nothing else Afterfall: Insanity makes for an eye-catching calling card for Intoxicate's graphical skills, but as a game in its own right it's as middle of the road as they come.

Afterfall: InSanity is the story of an intriguing premise let down by just too many technical failings and poor gameplay decisions. There’s a good game in here, with a decent running time, but it wasn’t given the care and resources it needed to be realised. What you’re left with is a fairly mediocre game that fails to live up to any of the titles that so heavily inspired its genesis.

Afterfall: Insanity is a bit of a mess. Everything about this product comes off as unfinished and if given more time to cook and iron out the bugs, the game could be enjoyable but in its current state it is barely passable. The game retails online for about $35 but you’re better off spending your money on a better game that is a lot more fun to play.

Afterfall: Insanity è un gioco estremamente pretenzioso che non riesce a reggere tutte le feature che schiera in campo. Il risultato finale è scostante, a tratti incompiuto, e generalmente poco rifinito. Le idee ci sono, ma servono a poco in un contesto simile. Quando anche l'interesse per la trama viene a mancare, vittima di una scrittura evidentemente incapace di reggere certi temi, i motivi per portarlo a termine scemano e subentra la voglia di disinstallarlo, soprattutto quando si finisce vittime dell'ennesimo bug. Eppure l'inizio, seppur lento, non è poi così malvagio. Peccato.

You need a clear, unified vision to shape a game into something that makes sense and compels the player to see it through to the end But scares and gameplay in Afterfall fall flat as scene after scene repeat the same notes, turning what could have been a spine-chilling adventure into a treadmill to an unsatisfying finish. The lesson to be learned here isn’t that smaller developers can’t make awesome games, but if they want to make something truly great it probably shouldn’t come from a consensus of people scattered. Multiple personalities in the mind, or in game design, apparently results in nothing short of madness. And not the good kind, either.

Afterfall: InSanity left me feeling like a gaping hole had been punctured into my week; a hole filled with memories of boring gameplay, laughable attempts at inspiring fear, and a general, rotten taste in my mouth that will easily be washed away by a slew of superior survival horror games, most of which were made years before this one. I applaud the creators of the game for making a game that looks so decidedly polished, and one which fits in seamlessly with the current generation, but it simply wasn't any fun for me to play, and that is what counts.

Afterfall: Insanity is full of bugs, plays like snail, and is an affront to all of my senses. Furthermore, it has one of the most confusing story lines that I have ever seen. There is actually a whole lot more about this game that I wanted rant about, but I just don’t have enough space for it all. To put it simply, Afterfall is neither fun nor scary, and I can’t think of anyone who might actually enjoy it.

tak dochodzimy do zakończenia tej smutnej opowieści. Afterfall: InSanity miało być polskim Falloutem, potem polskim Dead Space, zdobywającym szturmem zachodni rynek gier komputerowych. Okazało się jednak produkcją poniżej przeciętnej, hurtem zżynającą pomysły ze wspomnianego Dead Space’a oraz z kilku innych podobnych atmosferą gier. Koniec końców wyszła pozycja mierna, schematyczna i wtórna wobec samej siebie i innych survival horrorów oraz third person shooterów. Szkoda przede wszystkim autorów projektu Afterfall, bo spełnienie ich marzeń okazało się niskobudżetową strzelanką, powtarzalną i nieciekawą.

Afterfall: InSanity är ett skolexempel på spel som borde finnas med i böcker på samtliga spelutvecklarskolor under kapitlet "Undvik för i helvete!". Om jag ändå ska försöka komma på något positivt att säga om spelet är det antagligen att det går att köpa digitalt och på så vis, om man av misstag köpt spelet kan undanröja alla bevis utan att varken dina kompisar eller sopåkarna kan komma på dig.
