OverviewThe Age Of Sail is the first in a range of real-time strategy simulations from the Talonsoft team, already famous for their classic Battleground series of 3D turn-based war games.
Covering the period from 1775 to 1820, Age Of Sail simulates every aspect of naval warfare in breathtaking detail. Play a complete campaign game or choose from 100 individual scenarios. Enlist in either the English, American, French or Spanish navy and work your way up through the ranks until, maybe one day, you too can be Admiral.
There are over 600 historical ships in the Age Of Sail database including such famous vessels as HMS Victory, The Invincible, Constitution, Vengeance, Defiance, Natividad, Espanol and Saratoga. Ships from the Russian, Dutch, Swedish and Portugese navies are also represented to allow for maximum flexibility and historical accuracy.
Age Of Sail is Windows based (3.1x or Win95) and uses a cutting edge icon-based control system for maximum ease of use. In fact, playing Age Of Sail couldn't be easier, with its 'novice' level allowing beginners to command small sections of the navy at once under easy sailing conditions. Only when you have mastered the basics will the full scope of the game become apparent, if only because accurate wind conditions mean you'll have to learn to sail a bit if you want to succeed.
As well as the scenario and campaign modes, a scenario editor lets you create your own naval combats while modem and network options offer the chance to go head-to-head with friends or colleagues. At a later date there will also be a fully integrated internet module to allow up to 8 gamers to play each other.
With the state of the art 3D graphics you've come to expect from Talonsoft plus super-sophisticated AI and unbelievably realistic sound effects Age Of Sail not only represents the very best in strategy gaming but also draws you that little bit further in with its unique and potent atmosphere.
