If any publisher out there is smart and wants to make good money on a budget title, they'll wisely pick up on Alien Hominid for the Game Boy Advance. It's just as good as the console and Flash versions and should make any fan feel right at home taking apart a government just for the sake of transportation. Even if you have to import, it's worth it.

Solid but basic gameplay is all well and good, but Alien Hominid wouldn’t be where it’s at today without some amazing artistry. It is really Dan Paladin’s creativity and skill as an artist that makes you want to continue on in Alien Hominid, not necessarily the gameplay. As the mind of Schafer pushed us further and further into Psychonauts, Paladin’s artful usage of basic geometry, colors, and 2D depth-of-field is leagues above others who have tried the same thing.

Everyone loves an underdog (except Yankee fans). Its why ICO and Katamari Damacy have jumped from Japanese oddities to bona-fide classics that we'll be talking about for years to come. And it certainly applies in the case of Alien Hominid, a game programmed by a dozen or so people and initally released as a Flash demo on the Internet that was downloaded 7,011,699 times from newgrounds.com.

Alien Hominid far surpassed my expectations, although, if I'm honest, I didn't know what to expect. I thought that maybe the world had moved away from 2D fast paced retro action but after only five minutes of playing, I could see that the world of gaming just doesn't have enough of it. It's a shame that Alien Hominid ends - that's my only gripe with the whole game. It ends. But then, you can play through it again and again with friends, turning up the difficulty a notch each time. You can also beat your scores again and again too and who wouldn't want to play through this a few more times, if not only to take notice of the fantastic surroundings? Alien Hominid is the most addictive game I've played in ages and the tongue in cheek gameplay makes this work of art a must have. Everyone should be able to appreciate the amount of effort and care locked up inside; this game just goes to show that 2D really can sometimes be better than 3D. Just buy it.

For a game that has humble beginnings, Alien Hominid has gone on to grow up and become a beast of a game. The sense of humor is always welcome and the artwork is unbelievable. Don’t let it’s lack of three-dimensional graphics turn you away, before there was 3D there was 2D, and this is by far one of the best looking 2D games I’ve ever seen. The Behemoth have made a great game and hopefully, have the foundation for making a great sequel because this game is worthy of your hard earned money especially when it’s nearly half the price (MSRP $29.99) of lesser quality unoriginal titles available in stores now. If you don’t get this game you’ll only have yourself to blame for the lack of originality in the video game industry.

Action fans, if there was one game to recommend to you for 2006 it would be this. Okay, so it is only out in Europe on the GBA, but Americans should not be deterred and try to find it on import. It easily matches the classic Metal Slug series as one of the best side-scrolling blasting titles on the market. Charming and a real joy to play through…

Old school shooter fans rejoice! O-3 Entertainment and developer The Behemoth have unleashed an alien invasion upon us with Alien Hominid, a delightfully entertaining 2D shooter chock full of action, gore, and special features. As the adorable yet deadly Hominid, you must slice, bite, and blast your way through waves of FBI agents and humongous bosses in a colorful world rich with detail and intrigue. Ride cars and space ships, burrow underground, and chomp off the heads of bad guys to survive, but never blink because this game's super hard, meaning you should get used to dying...A LOT! In addition to the single-player game there are mini games to check out as well as over 200 neat PDA puzzles. Alien Hominid isn't stacked with high production values but it's brimming with charm as well as quality gameplay, making it one of 2004's sleeper hits and a must buy.

If only Alien Hominid were a bit meatier, I could wholeheartedly recommend it as a purchase. I will, however, say that Alien Hominid definitely belongs in that elite class of quirky games, like Rez and Katamari Damacy, that should at least be experienced, if not part of any self-respecting gamer’s collection. This game has such personality and originality, even despite the fact that it is in effect reviving a dead genre, that I must commend The Behemoth for having the tenacity to see this project through to completion. If this is the type of product that an independent game studio can produce given the resources, then I sincerely hope that we can see more independent games come to the mass market in the near future.

Put simply Alien Hominid is about as close as you can get to a perfect handheld shooter both in terms of gameplay and overall challenge. There's absolutely nothing new here either, although swapping the latest computer rendered visuals for these highly stylised hand drawn graphics definitely separates Alien Hominid from the rest of the pack. There are also the rather enjoyable mini-games, which not only add replay value to the whole package but also help to split up the main game. All this apart however, what will keep you coming back is just how satisfying the overall experience is whether it's your first attempt or you're just trying to push up that high score. Recommended for retro enthusiasts and new gamers alike. You won't be disappointed!

Simply put, Alien Hominid is a fun 2D side-scrolling action game, a dying breed in this day and age. The beauty is that this game went from a popular internet Flash game to the Playstation 2 and GameCube. This game has a lot of extras and just plowing through the game to see and battle the bosses is well worth it. I highly recommend this game if you are feeling the nostalgia bug.

The style is thick, the charm is oozing over and the alien is an instantly loveable character. At a price of $30 there is no reason at all not to try this game out, sure it has some faults and sure it?s short, but this game is addicting and begs for a sequel. You will truly miss something if you don?t check it out.

With its strictly 2D graphics and deceptively simple play mechanics, Alien Hominid will not appeal to everyone. But if you grew up with this kind of game on older systems, or if you just enjoy fast-paced action games in general, this is one of the best on GameCube.

Even though most gamers are still playing catch-up to the major game releases of the season, Alien Hominid is one game you should definitely not overlook. This is a game by people that really know a thing or two about making a memorable experience, and some of the extra features will have you coming back well into the new year (especially if you have friends). It's not one of the most complex games of the year, but it certainly is one of the best.

Even with the possibility of getting the save-wiping bug, Alien Hominid HD is a fantastic game. It's a perfect example of a game that can (and should) flourish under the auspices of a widely used digital-distribution system. And on top of all that, it's available for $10, or 800 points. That's a great value for your dollar, and this is a game you should most definitely check out.

At 800 Microsoft Points ($10 USD), deciding whether to download and give Alien Hominid a shot is an easy choice. This game is such an excellent fit for the Xbox Live Arcade that you'll want to try out the demo at the very least, even if shooters aren't your cup of tea. The game oozes style and humor out of every wound the alien leaves in his wake of destruction. It's hardcore on the level that may discourage some, but it has the most important quality a game can have as well: It's fun.

Allow me to turn the clock back to a time when the arcades were filled with 2D shooters that seemed to somehow suck the quarters right out of your pocket one-by-one until you were left with a really sore thumb and the satisfaction of seeing your initials flashing on the screen. Times change, though, and these games have taken a back seat to some amazing 3D games but somewhere deep inside there still lurks the gamer that loved the old-school platform shooters. That’s why when Alien Hominid first appeared as a free downloadable Macromedia Flash game on the internet, so many gamers just had to download it. Well lucky for us Alien Hominid is now available on our GameCube and trust me when I say that this is one game you shouldn’t ignore.

Just based solely on its gunplay, Alien Hominid is worthy of mention in the same breath as classic shoot-'em-ups like Contra and Metal Slug. Nonetheless, it is the game's uniquely refreshing (albeit crude) visual style and attitude that justifies the price of admission.

Here's a fact: Console gaming is a technology-driven business. This isn't exactly the forum for getting into the how and why, but it's also a fact that this focus has allowed the art form of 2D graphics to fall by the wayside--at least within the big business of console gaming. But original 2D gaming is thriving on the Web, thanks in no small part to the Macromedia Flash platform and amateur artists and programmers with lots of time on their hands. Newgrounds.com has for years been a forum for no-budget Web-based gaming and animation, and it's where Alien Hominid, the debut game from the independent development studio The Behemoth, began its life. With a surplus of charm and a tried-and-true side-scrolling shoot-'em-up design, Alien Hominid gained loads of momentum on the Web, which has allowed for the unlikely crossover to the PlayStation 2 and GameCube. While its gameplay design may appear to be derivative, there truly isn't anything else quite like Alien Hominid on consoles today.

Alien Hominid pretty much came out of nowhere. O-3 Entertainment and developer The Behemoth did a sneak attack on the Playstation 2, Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft Xbox systems. And the results of this sneak attack prove not only that with a great, crazy concept, funky art and 2D side-scrolling gameplay, you can still make a game that kicks ass and takes names. Many are comparing this title to Capcom’s smash hit Viewtiful Joe. But there are very little to compare. Sure they are very artful and unique, but the comparisons pretty much ends there. Alien Hominid is about a little alien dude who falls to earth. And the FBI discovers him and tries to capture (well, in this case kill) him. This is where the story begins. And you are in full control of this little yellow alien. The minute your space ship lands in the city, Alien Hominid is non-stop booger-nosed funk action from top to bottom.

If you’re like me and you’ve been playing Alien Hominid for a few years already, then Alien Hominid HD is kind of like somebody made a great movie based on one of your favorite books. The gameplay is as smooth as ever, but the graphical improvements really make it jump off the screen. With the extra content, online play, and not to mention the chance to win a real trophy, it’s pretty much a must-have game. The price is nice at 800 MS points, and the challenge here is sure to keep you coming back for more.

If you love Viewtiful Joe you will love this. If you are getting bored while developers continue to churn on random generic FPS’s week after week you will love this. If you grew up on games like Contra, Metal Slug or Turtles in Time you will love this. Simply put, if you love games, you will love this! Alien Hominid is pure absolute undiluted fun! It deserves to be one of the top selling games of 2005 (although sadly we all know it wont!) Oh so highly recommended to gamers of any age! Buy It!

Alien Hominid HD is one of the better Xbox Live Arcade games to come along in some time, and it is quite a value at 800 MS points. The game presents itself extremely well, and the action is both intense and enjoyable. The only drawbacks are the lack of online co-op and the excessive challenge (this will only bother some), but even the co-op might be patched with a download in the future. If you enjoy action games (especially those of the side-scrolling variety), you should definitely download this title.

While Alien Hominid HD might not be as fresh and new to us as say - Assault Heroes or Cloning Clyde, especially since it started its life so many years ago on the Internet and last-gen consoles. It still offers gamers what I believe every XBLA title should offer. A reasonably new and unique experience with it’s own sense of style. Sure, it’s not a brand-spankin’ new game, but then it was never a mainstream game either. It wasn’t something that had become synonymous in pop-culture like say… Pac-man, and presented to us for the um-teenth time with another price tag attached to it.

A animação é fantástica.

ands down, this is one of my favorite games of the year. It’s not the most polished game out there by any means, but it makes up for its lack of finesse with sheer style and quirkiness. The old-school shooter vibe will feel instantly familiar to those who enjoy hardcore titles like Metal Slug or Gradius, but the mood is far more reminiscent of Homestar Runner than Contra. The hand-drawn visuals look great, the bosses are unique and huge, the difficulty is blistering, and the Alien Hominid character is endearing. He may have began his life on the web, but he’s ready for cult status with shooter fans. If you’re looking for something fun, funny, and challenging, this is the title for you.

There is no doubting that Alien Hominid HD is one of the most challenging and difficult games you will ever play, but that is an integral part of its charm. The hand-drawn cartoon style visuals are at once beautiful and hilariously violent, and the extensive range of mini-games makes this a value-laden package. And at around $13 it's a fraction of the price it was at retail on Xbox, which makes buying this a real no-brainer. So stop complaining about the dearth of quality Live Arcade releases and grab Alien Hominid HD!

Don't take Alien Hominid's cover in like it's for children. It's a cartoon, sure, just not one you'll want your family to playing. If Alien Hominid is destined to leave any lasting legacy, it will almost certainly be on your carpal tunnels. Few games of late have required such a concerted dedication to pure blasting, and few have ever provided such a visual feast, either. Earlier this year, the latter levels of Heavy Weapon certainly reignited our bug-eyed appreciation for rapid fire thrills, and this is even better way to ruin a joypad. After a stop-start year so far for Xbox Live Arcade, this is a welcome inclusion, and well worth checking out. For the price, it'd be rude not to.

We've been championing Alien Hominid's transition from superpopular online browser game to PS2 ubershooter for months now. Was it worth all of our breathless enthusiasm? In short, yes. Here's a game that will take you back to the good old days, when all games were 2D side-scrollers and you could get all the fun you could ever need out of just shooting stuff. Hominid melds old-school ideas from Contra, Metal Slug, and Gunstar Heroes and gives them a beautiful hand-drawn look that you can't help but smile at.

In a day where realistic graphics and deep gameplay rule the day, it's nice to see a company release a game that has neither. Alien Hominid is a game that, while deep for what it is, does not need to be deep if the player doesn't want it to be. A port/remake of a flash game by the same name, most people would probably look at it and think that it is a low-quality game, and games such as Elf Bowling 1 and 2 for the DS would only help such thinking. However, Alien Hominid is a surprisingly entertaining game along the same vein as the Contra series.

PlayStation 2Game Freaks 365
So far as replay value is concerned, beyond what I just said, there are some mini-games that can be played, although they aren't as engaging as the main game. The main game and at least some of the mini-games can be played multiplayer as well. Overall, this is one of those games where, although it is a simple game, it is not so simple as to be repetitive and boring, but is rather simplistic and entertaining. If you've been holding out on getting this game for some reason, and you're a fan of Contra, hold out no longer. This game is definitely worth what you're likely to pay for it.

Those who have yet to discover Alien Hominid can do no wrong with picking this up off of the Xbox Live Arcade. It’s quirky, it’s funny, and it’s challenging. Alien Hominid is a great package. A little quirky and rough around the edges, it survives on originality, genuinely funny content and an enormous challenge. The presentation and graphics style are like no other and the shooter gameplay is varied and different enough to maintain the interest in what’s coming next. Don’t say we didn’t warn you, though: Alien Hominid is double-ultra-mega hard.

Alien Hominid is certainly an ode to days past, providing a challenge to gamers who still enjoy the run and gun action of old, though the degree of difficulty makes the game somewhat inaccessible to those looking for a quick blast. The game's visual design is amazing, with a level of imagination rarely seen in these days of normal mapped generic armoured muscle men (yes, that's you Epic). If you're feeling somewhat unsatisfied by the games of today, pick up Alien Hominid, though people who aren't die hard shooter fans may be better serviced by taking a quick look at the Flash version of the game seen on Newgrounds.

In brief, Alien Hominid probably has more than its share of quirky memorable moments, and the "cool" factor is very high, which is precisely why it attracted so many downloads and merchandise sales in the first place. But on the PS2 platform, we've left the world of free downloads and entered the world of high-powered hardware and similarly high expectations. And AH doesn't quite live fit comfortably into the 'great shooter' garb I've seen it masquerade about in on the net--those clothes fit noticeably loose. Still, it's fun with a friend, a decent way to spend a few frantic hours, and one can't help but appreciate what was attempted here. The publishing guys at Behemoth show potential for greatness; their first flawed, but fresh effort falls only just short of the mark.

All in all, Alien Hominid is a fast, fun shooter, which will appeal to many who actually give it a chance. The ambitious animation lets it down in places and it is not without its flaws, but the plus points do enough to outweigh the minus. Without the addition of the PDA games, this might have scored a bit lower, but the lastability they offer is undeniable.

Can a game originally intended to run on Macromedia Flash hold its own as a full-length console title? Alien Hominid attempts to answer that by breaking thru preconceived boundaries and showing that solid concepts work well in any form. Don't expect Hominid to be a straight port of the Flash game, the graphics, sound, and game engine have been totally revamped for its console inception.

Right in the midst of this holiday season of big-budget blockbusters, Alien Hominid is unassumingly released by both a new publisher and developer. Like the proverbial story of David and Goliath, here is a game that spits in the face of today's video-game trends. This is not an epic adventure. It does not offer 50+ hours of gameplay. You won't be roaming freely across a gigantic "living" city. You won't see any fancy 3d effects, or even any 3d graphics at all. Contrary to the status quo, Alien Hominid is a stark reminder that you don't need big budgets, big technology, or trendy features to make a decent game.

Aliens, Predators and Alfs might terrorize our planet beautifully, but they sure are ugly. If humanity is going be enslaved by marauding alien invaders, why not face extinction by something cute and cuddly? Take, for instance, a devilishly happy extraterrestrial that smiles even while spilling the blood of the innocent and slicing mankind up like deli meats. That sounds like a much nicer way to go, and in fact turns out to be pretty fun in Alien Hominid for the PS2 and GC.

Don’t let that stop you from checking it out, though. With a great style taken directly from the pages of a deranged art student’s sketchbook and fun if occasionally frustrating action to boot, this little alien proves that you don’t need a big, fancy ship to invade a home console.

Arc the Lad: End of Darkness is the follow-up to 2003’s Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, but that’s not to say it’s more of the same experience. While Twilight of the Spirits is best known for it’s strategic and fast-paced gameplay, End of Darkness takes the gameplay in another direction altogether as a hack-and-slash action RPG with card-based spells and an equipment system.

It's a shame. With a wonderful visual style and (on the surface) an accessible genre, this is the sort of game you want to give to a friend who wants a quick blast... except, they'd never have any fun with it whatsoever. The design decisions are aimed at those people who have Metal Slug tattooed across their brow and demand a phenomenally brutal challenge for their money, as that's the only thing which their honed reflexes can feed off. This is very much for the hardcore. And, as the hardcore eventually does when it takes over any genre, it ruins the game for anyone but the hardcore. Leave it to them.

Hominid has an abundance of style, spread thick over a fairly brief game. This is cute, blood-thirsty and very old-skool; exactly the kind of thing that makes you want to buy the T-shirt and plush Hominid dolls. It's only a matter of time...

Alien Hominid HD almost makes us want to cry. Maybe it's because a game we've been looking forward too has turned out to be incredibly average or perhaps it's because we've very rarely been this overcome by a games unfair difficulty. Either way, it may be best to save your Microsoft points and purchase Worms. Now that's guaranteed to be a far more fun experience.

The game's flashy graphics and huge objects often make it hard to tell what's going on. Finally, this game gave me the worst case of carpal tunnel ever. Alien Hominid takes its cue from several 2D classics, but it doesn't possess the same old school sensibility or addictive gameplay. I've heard several people complain that this game is too short, but for this critic, it's enough Hominid for a lifetime.
