Alien³

I haven't had this much fun being frustrated in a long time. This game requires good reflexes, a sharp memory, and a cast iron stomach, cause if you don't rescue the hostages in time, they get chunked! Definitely a great action game you'll go back to over and over.

Alien 3 is definitely very challenging. There's plenty to shoot, lots to explore and the backgrounds vary enough to hold your attention. It has all the atmosphere of an Aliens film as you never know when one's going to leap out at you. This is one of the best movie-to-game conversions I've seen.

But in terms of pure gameplay this is far superior. Each stage is a maze of rooms connected by tubes and ladders. Your job is to rescue all the prisoners and exit before time runs out. You can switch between several weapons including a machine gun, flamethrower, grenade launcher and hand grenades. Each weapon is effective in certain situations, and the action is fast and exciting. The aliens look terrific, and I love how they scream and splatter when shot. I do have a few complaints however. First, it's never clear where the so-called "exit" is located, which can be frustrating. Next, there are times when the aliens seem impossible to avoid, so you'll take some mandatory hits. While the controls are decent overall, squatting down to fire low can be problematic. But these are minor issues. All in all, the fast pace and arcade style of Alien 3 makes the game hard to put down.

Veteran Alien hunters shouldn't expect Alien 3 for the Game Gear to pack the same pulse-pounding action as the Genesis version. The Game Gear obviously doesn't pack enough power to match up with the 16-bit special effects. However, challenging gameplay and lengthy stages give the game more punch than average Game Gear fare.

Det här är ett spel som inte bara kräver tung beväpning, det kräver lite taktik också. Alien 3 är en tung titel för actionhjältar. Och hjältinnor.

Le graphisme est correct tout comme l'animation. La maniabilité du sprite n'est cependant pas évidente lorsqu'il s'agit de grimper aux échelles, cela vous demandera un petit peu d'entraînement... Un petit regret: il faut choisir soit la musique, soit les bruitages, et c'est bien dommage, d'autant qu'un jeu, sans l'un ou l'autre de ces ingrédients essentiels, devient vite ennuyeux.

Grafisch mein man vor einem Mega Drive zu sitzen, das Scrolling klappt prima, und die Animationen kommen sehr ordentlich rüber. Leider sind manche Sprites etwas klein geraten, und die düster-farbarme Optik mag zwar atmosphärisch sein, dürfte also nicht jedermann gefallen (schon gar nicht der BPS mit ihrer Blutallergie). Über die Klasse der gelungenen Musikuntermalung wird es dagegen kaum Diskussionen geben, und auch die Sound-FX mit den gruseligen Schreien sind okay, wenn gleich nur spärlich vorhanden. Wer also nicht auf innovativen Spielideen besteht, wird von diesem ausgereiften Action-Game sicher gut bedient. Ein wenig "Berufserfahrung" sollte man halt mitbringen, denn selbst beim leichtesten der drei Schwierigkeitsgrade ist Alien 3 kein Spaziergang! Und die fehlenden Levelcodes machen die Jagd auch nicht gerade einfacher...

Overall, I really enjoyed this game. Yes, it's hard sometimes, but the audio and the atmosphere keep me coming back every once in a while. Alien 3 is just the kind of game that has you returning to it, even though it's not loaded with secrets to unlock. That's because it’s just so much fun to plug it in your machine and play it a little while just to blast some aliens into oblivion. Some gamers will find it too hard perhaps, but I think it's just the way the game has to be. Alien 3 can be had quite inexpensively, so grab one and enjoy the heart-pounding music while you search for the prisoners.

Amigan Alien 3 on kokonaisuutena viimeistelemätön. Rujo grafiikka ja lepsut äänet eivät peliä vielä välttämättä pilaa, mutta paikoin pelattavuuskin tahmailee. Suht hyvien pelien rupukäännökset masentavat, pystyyhän Amiga parempaankin.

Definitely a solid action/platformer that fans of the movie or the genre shouldn't miss. Alien 3 marks another great title from Probe Entertainment, who have continually brought realism and believability to their games, especially in this Alien universe.

Alien III kann sicherlich nicht die Qualitäten eines Lionheart oder eines Fire & Ice erreichen, dürfte aber jedoch im Vergleich zu anderen Filmspielen relativ gut abschneiden. Noch dazu wenn eine japanische Firma, die eigentlich auf Konsolenspiele spezialisiert ist, ihr Computerdebüt abgibt, darf man in Sachen Gameplay besseres erwarten. Ich kann Euch nur einen Ratschlag geben: Stürmt in die nächste Videothek, holt Euch den Film, und laßt Euch schon auf das demnächst erscheinende Spiel einstimmen. Ihr werdet bei Aliens III sicherlich von der Atmospähre gefangengenommen werden.

Despite the AI flaws, fans of the movie series will want to get the game, and action gamers in general should give it a try. The atmosphere, graphics and exploration aspects help set this title apart from similar offerings on the Game Gear.
