Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol is a tactical third-person shooter set in the year 2366. The planet Qahira (formerly Mars) is ruled by the SolGov Federation. Lieutenant Kyle Hardlaw is the leader of a specialized commando unit called Alpha Black Zero and is accused of assassinating various members of his own government. There are rebel groups fighting against the government and in the game's missions, which are flashbacks to what really happened, Hardlaw and his 5-man team (co-op multiplayer for up to 5 players is available) relive their espionage missions and unravel the conspiracy and treason.

The game features expansive outdoor terrains and indoor levels. It is squad-based, meaning that the protagonist is always accompanied by a team, to which commands can be issued. The player is able to switch between any available squad mate. At the beginning of each level the player chooses between three weapon kits: standard, heavy or stealth.
