All in all, this is the best Spidey game I have ever played. The frantic side-scrolling gameplay keeps you on your toes, and it fits the Spidey character to a tee. The game's control is rock-solid, and it does a great job of getting across Spidey's lightning-quick reflexes, which you will need if you hope to succeed in this game. The sound of the game is great. Although some of the sound effects are a bit too over the top for their own good. This game does an amazing job at capturing the characters it uses. All of them fit their comic-book personas perfectly. If you are a fan of Spidey, and you are looking for the best Spidey game out there, pick this game up.

Megadrive Spider-Man is similar in concept to the Master System version we reviewed last month, but has a much larger play area and vastly improved gameplay. It’s basically a Shinobi-style game, but has plenty of new touches to keep your interest – I particularly like the way you can take “photos” during the game, and being able to return home and rest when energy is low is a novel twist. The control method is quite tricky to get used to, but once mastered, Spidey can do all manner of moves, from running across the ceiling to swinging around on his web at high speed. Graphically, Spider-Man is varied in quality. The large Spider-Man sprite is nicely drawn and animated and all the baddies are excellent, but the backdrops are rather bland and look a bit rough around the edges. Still, Spider-Man is a very challenging game.

This is the best Master System game I've played for a long time! The Spiderman theme has been exploited fully, and there are plenty of wall crawling laffs and web-spinning japes. The graphics are very good indeed, with swift smooth scrolling backdrops, excellent cartoon-style still screens and a very nicely animated main sprite, and the action is fast and furious, with enough original features to keep you on your toes. If you're a fan of the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman, or are simply a Master System player who's after a decent game, this should be put at the top of your shopping list.

The graphics are slightly improved, and feature more interesting levels and backgrounds than the first game. Cartoon quality cut-scenes are used to convey the story, and although they can take a while to sit through, they're pretty darn funny (unintentionally?). Other cool features include a password save feature and a gallery of artwork. Thumbs up!

Spider-Man's in a jam and you'd be be prepared to do some jamming to help him out. Webhead fans have no choice, this is the best web slingin' game around. Now Spider-Man isn't the only one who does whatever a spider can.

For owners of the Sega Nomad, Spider-Man is perfect for portable web-slinging action. While the fast-pace of the game can give the already-blurry screen some cause for alarm, you'll get used to it after a few minutes and eventually learn to compensate for the errors that will be caused by the blurring. The sound, gameplay, and control remain as pristine as ever. I would recommend that you play it on a regular Genesis system prior to playing it on a Nomad so you will be able to get a feel for how it should be played. Then, when you feel you're up to the task, play it on the Nomad. Despite all of the problems caused by playing this game on the Nomad, it's still the best way to play Spidey on the go. If you have Sega's portable Genesis, then you should definitely do whatever it takes to pick this game up. There are a few qualms to be had with playing it on the small screen, but it's still the finest Spidey experience that can be had on a portable and one of the best Spidey games ever.

This side-scroller is plenty of fun if you can deal with all the clichés. Spiderman is your typical, old-fashioned, jump-kick-punch game. You beat up one thug after another, and they all look exactly the same. Spiderman can crawl on the walls, ceilings, the sides of buildings, and through vents. The controls are tricky at first, and can be frustrating at times. But your web-slinging ability is great fun, allowing you to swing freely as well as tie up the bad guys. You'll face six villains, including Dr Octopus, the Hobgoblin, and Venom. The graphics and sound are about average. The action gets repetitious, but the boss battles are pretty interesting. Spiderman is a challenging game, and it doesn't provide a password, but it does deliver some old-school fun.

How did Sega map so many functions to just two buttons? Not very well! Even when you know exactly what you're supposed to do, the clumsy controls make everything an onerous chore. The second stage takes place in a warehouse, where you slug it out with thugs in blue helmets and orange jump suits. You need to kill each and every last one of them before Dr. Octopus will appear, and it took me quite a while to figure that out! Kicking thugs causes them to bounce around like basketballs - pretty cheesy!! The third stage puts Spidey in some nasty sewers with falling red drops, rising green bubbles, and pesky rats scurrying around. This stage also features nasty pit traps that are next to impossible to escape from. Even the layered background music sounds like a jumbled mess. I wanted to like Spiderman, but this game is just a monumental waste of time.
