Play Time (Apr, 1991)
Zzap! (Feb, 1991)
A-10 Tank Killer is obviously enough a flight simulation of the USAF's A-10 Thunderbolt - or Warthog as it is affectionately known by all 'Hog -Drivers'. Those of you weaned on little else but F-16s might wonder what the hell an A-10 actually is. Primarily, they are used alongside battlefield helicopters in the close air support role. They are slow enough to identify and attack ground targets but they come with high survivability and a greater weapons load than helicopters. A-10s have a distinctive shape and the largest and mast powerful gun ever mounted on an aircraft. Called the Avenger 30mm cannon, it fires depleted uranium shells at a rate of 4,200 rounds per minute. Enough to atomise a tank at 4,000 yards. It is generally rated as being 'one mean muvva'.
Zero (Apr, 1991)
In presentation the game is virtually identical to the PC version, with lurvely digitised pics to set the atmosphere. Where the game fails down, however, is the jerky update, combined with bad joystick response - all rather reminiscent of a "Flying brick simulator" and made my enjoyment of the game diminish somewhat As it is, A- 10 is an alrightish flight sim that could have been much better, But if you want a decent flight sim, then Interceptor by Electronic Arts is the dog's wossnames and is only £9.95.
Amiga Action (Jun, 1991)
Although Tank Killer hasn't received a lot of hype I had heard generous amounts of praise for the PC version and was looking forward to the Amiga game. What a disappointment. As far as flight sims go it isn't too bad but when you compare it to the likes of Falcon and F-19 it just doesn't make the mark. The graphics are brilliant in places and appalling in others which sums up the whole game. A package of mixed quality that leaves me feeling that more could have been made of it. For flight sims fans only.
Amiga Joker (Jan, 1991)
Amiga Power (Jul, 1991)
Yet another addition to the ever expanding flight sim stable. Unfortunately, the plethora of available sims means that a new one has to be top notch to stand out. This doesn't quite make it. And it's one meg only.
Amiga Power (Aug, 1991)
A interesting but flawed attempt at taking the flight simulation genre a stage further.
