Bandit Kings of Ancient China

Bandit Kings is the second in the new series of historical strategy games from Infogrames. It uses a similar control system to the initial release, Genghis Khan, and any comments made about that game also hold true to Bandit Kings. The depth contained in the game is amazing and despite the fact that the manual is well over 100 hundred pages thick it is possible to start play straightaway as the control system is very accessible. Bandit Kings is slightly interior to the previous release but is still an outstanding game. Highly recommended for any strategy enthusiast.

Fantastisch: Bandit Kings of Ancient China ist das ansprechendste Strategiespiel, das mir jemals unter die Finger gekommen ist. Die interaktive Geschichtsstunde ist sehr komplex; trotzdem hat man sich binnen Minuten in die Taktikmaterie eingelebt. Dafür sorgt schon das prächtig illustrierte Regelwerk mit Karten und Nacherzählungen bekannter chinesischer Volkslegenden. Neben dem Intro wartete das Spiel außerdem mit digtalisiertem Sound (von Schwertergeklirr bis zum sägenden Schnarchen eines ruhenden Helden), fernöstlichen Melodien und vielen niedlichen Animationen auf. Rollenspielelemente machen es auch für genrefremde Spieler interessant – nicht jedoch leichter: Die Feindesscharen sind trotz einstellbarem Schwierigkeitsgrad schwer zu schlagen. Dank der Benutzerfreundlichkeit des Spiels nimmt man die harte Strategiearbeit jedoch gerne in Kauf.
