The Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate

This is definitely the best in the series. It's playable and very absorbing. Let's just hope this isn't the last we're going to see from the singing Bard.

Mach auch die Monsterschlacht(erei) so manchem Rollenspieler nicht mehr ganz zeitgemäss erscheinen – dieses Game hat einfach einen ganz speziellen Charme, der nicht nur eingefleischte Alt-Barden in seinen Bann zieht. Wer also im nächsten halben Jahr nichts Besonderes vorhat, dem sei der Besuch in Interplays düsteren Verliesen dringend angeraten!

We all know the graphics and sound aren't necessary in this type of game, but the graphics in BT3 aren't even as good as those in BT1. However, the gameplay has been improved and thanks to the better story line there's little more brain work involved. A good game that many people will enjoy.

Ihr könnt Eure Rollenspielklassiker-Sammlung endlich komplettieren: Electronic Arts hatte ein Einsehen und liefert der Barden-Saga dritten Teil für den Amiga. Natürlich ist die Urvater-Reihe der Hack'n'Slay-Spiele technisch nicht auf der Höhe: Karge Animation der Monster und simple 3-D-Grafik sind heute kein ernstzunehmender Standard mehr; trotzdem hat man einen Heidenspaß.

A well executed example of the genre, Bard's Tale III lacks tension. Nice graphics, but limited and repetitive gameplay means it is only really for beginners and fans of the series.

A competent and highly playable roleplayer in the classic tradition. What was excellent five years ago, however, is in serious need of an overhaul in 1991.

Bard's Tale III is addictive, merely because I like the game type enough to persevere, and there is a hefty challenge in there for RPG fans. A pity about those niggles though.
