Darkman

Ett gott hantverk, dock inte mycket själ. Jag förstår mig inte riktigt på Ocean. Deras filmlicenser har lyckats skapa en egen genre, och det är inte smicker, då de ensamma kontrollerar denna. Jag tycker det är helt OK att plocka upp en gammal, bra idé och försöka göra något nytt av det. Att plocka upp ett namn på en film och sedan göra något gammalt av det är inte lika OK. Som spel är Darkman lite hetare än ljummet. Om ni inte äger något liknande, bra spel, är det klart värt att kika närmare på mörkermannen. I vilket fall som helst: Se filmen!

Ocean setzt auf Beständigkeit: Ihre zahlreichen Filmumsetzungen sind fast alle nach dem gleichen Muster gestrickt: Ein professionelles Ambiente verbindet uninspiriert zusammengewürfelte Minispielchen. Diesmal werden uns ein mieser "Double Dragon"-Verschnitt, ein mäßiges Jump'n'Run, ein passabler Reaktionstest und ein paar merkwürdige Geschicklichkeitsszenen vorgesetzt. Das Ganze ist zwar keine totale Katastrophe, doch ohne den Film-Background würde heutzutage keine vernünftige Softwarefirma einen solchen Mittelmaß-Mix veröffentlichen. Die Amiga-Version gibt optisch logischerweise mehr her und spielt sich minimal besser als die C-64-Umsetzung.

Basing a game on a hit movie is one thing, basing one on a flop implies considerable lack of sense. I don't mind admitting I didn't see the movie: the trailers and the reviews were enough to put me off it. The game probably follows the movie and there were references to characters I knew nothing about, but it's a bad enough game that I don't much care. I was immediately disgusted with it in the first section. You're supposed to take snapshots of the villain as he races across a screenful of windows. The problem is that the joystick response is too slow to give you even a faint hope of success. After that, you move into a standard sidescrolling streetscene where you have lo fight through endless attackers. I couldn't stand any more after that. Change the name, slightly modify the graphics, and you have Robocop 2 or The Untouchables or Predator or any of a dozen other movie adaptations distinguished only by their lack of originality and high body counts. Give Darkman the deep six.
