Hard Drivin' II use the sound basis of the original, cuts out all the bugs and minor playability problems, and builds on to it the game that will continue the Hard Drivin' legacy into the Nineties. Against some very stiff opposition, Hard Drivin' II should keep up with competition and in some occasions accelerate away.

Congratulations to Domark on improving the performance of this good-looking racing game. The speed of the original was a slight problem, but here it has been increased to do justice to the fine graphics and animation. However, this isn't enough of a revision to qualify as a different game. The question has to be - wouldn't it have been better to hold off on the first Hard Driving until this improved version was ready for release?
For those who already possess the original Hard Drivin' there's not much point in buying this (unless you've money to burn), otherwise it's both addictive and playable and, with the new designed course, definitely value for the money.
The graphics and the controls of Hard Drivin' were slow and unresponsive. Fortunately, all this has been rectified with the sequel and is therefore very enjoyable. The graphics are of a very high standard and move fast considering all the detail that is being moved in 3D. Sound is a little lack luster and is more like an ST than an Amiga which is not a real disappointment. I think the only real problem with the game is the fact that there is a severe lack of new ideas which may put off owners of the original game.

Dust off Hard Drivin', add three courses, a head-to-head option and a track editor and what do you have? Hard Drivin' 2 - Drive Harder! This isn't bad at all, and if you haven't got the original version, you can't go far wrong.

I expected to see a few new track features. Without these, or in fact any new features of any significance other than the designer, Hard Drivin 2 has little to offer fans of the original. Anyone without Hard Drivin' should get their money's worth (although the original game available in a couple of compilations looks more inviting), but others are liable to be disappointed. More suited to a "Data Disk" format I feel.
Still, if you're a fan of the coin-op, then this version gets closer than it's predecessor and the track editor - despite being very fiddly to use - is a decent addition. However, the game still falls far short of its potential. Let's wait and see what happens with the Hard Racin' conversion - maybe that one will hit the mark.
