Roger Wilco is having a quiet drink at a bar on Magmetheus, when two Sequel Police show up and ask Roger to come with them. He does so, but little does he know, that the Sequel Police are sent by Roger's nemesis Vohaul to destroy him, ruining the chance of future Space Quest sequels being made. But just before things are a disaster, two guys come and help Roger escape. He does this by entering a time-rip that drops him into Space Quest XII: Vohaul's Revenge II, which is Roger's home planet, Xenon, destroyed by the holocaust.
Note: If you happen to have the CD-ROM version and you have a beefed-up computer, I suggest that you use DOSBox. The CD-ROM is infested with time-related bugs that can't be fixed any other way. You will know when you have stumbled upon a bug.
Note: There are a couples of dangers lurking on the surface. One of them is the Droid o' Death. If it sees Roger, he will terminate him. Simple as that. When you hear the music change, save the game then either immediately leave the screen then re-enter or hide behind some structures. You will be awarded points for doing the latter. The other danger is the cyborg. If he sees you, you will see a close-up of his face. The cyborg then scream, alerting the droid to your presence at this location. You can't talk to him or give him something, so it's best to stay away from him.
From where you start, go west to appear at a screen with a disabled skimmer parked near a building. Click the Hand cursor on it to get a close-up view of it and open the glove compartment. Get the PocketPal laptop computer from inside and go north. You will see a damaged tank. Look in the hole in the tank and get the unstable ordnance, then put it back where you found it. Now go north, east (x2), and south (x2). Take the rope and proceed north. Walk behind the support beam to the red building, select the rope from inventory, and click the rope on ground. Roger will make a noose out of it and hide behind the pillar. Drag the Hand cursor over the rope and wait until the pink bunny goes into the noose. When he does, quickly click Hand on it to snatch the bunny.
Look at it in your inventory. The game gives you a look at its rear. Take the batteries out of it and insert them in the PocketPal. The PocketPal now has power. Now all you need to do is find a place to use it. We'll deal with that later. Leave inventory and go north. Open the sewer grate and go in.
(If you have failed to put the unstable ordnance back in the tank, Roger will be blown to pieces).
In the underground room, get the jar from the table and lift up the blotter, then press the button under it. A holographic image of Professor Lloyd will appear and tell you about the Xenon Super Computer and how they used it to upload a virus and caused havoc, and your mission is to destroy this virus. After the hologram disappears, walk over to the door and open it. Go through to the sewers. There, the large door shuts itself, and there's no way back. Go west (x2) to arrive in a passage with a grate above one of them. Go south. Before you go in that direction, green slime oozes out and makes it way toward you. Save the game. Quickly get out of the way and when it comes past you, scoop it up with the glass jar. Once you have it, go west and climb the ladder to get out of the sewers.
Roger will see a shuttle touching down on the surface and several Sequel Police getting out looking for you. When all of them left the ship and go off-screen, get out of the manhole and go east. (Don't go north or south or you will be killed.) Quickly enter the shuttle through the landing gear. The Sequel Police will come back and take off to their headquarters. When the shuttle lands, they get out and go to the left, and Roger follows them when the coast is clear. Go west. A time pod materializes and the driver gets out and talks to the other guard. While this happens, get in the pod. (In the CD-ROM version, you actually have to wait until they have stopped speaking.)
Note: In the floppy version, you have to deal with SQ4's copy protection before you continue the game. Read the instructions on screen, then get out the Space Piston Magazine that came with the game, and refer to pages 8 and 9. Match the x and y co-ordinates with those on the screen, then click the Done button or press [Enter/Return]. The game will give you two chances to input the correct symbols. On the third time, Roger will automatically get out of the ship and will be killed. CD-ROM users escape the copy protection.
When you are inside the pod, write down the symbols on the display above the keypad. You'll need these to get back to SQ12. (If you are not good at drawing, save the game, giving it a meaningful description. Refer back to the saved game when the time comes.) Punch in any six symbols. Nothing will happen, so punch in different ones, and the pod takes you to Space Quest X: Latex Babes of Estros.
Press the red button on the pod's left side to exit. Go west and continue along the path. A shadow of a large bird flies overhead. Go south. A human shadow on the left walks off the screen. Go north, east, and south. A dactyl will swoop down and drop Roger into its nest. Wait here until the dactyl drops a dead Sequel Policeman into the nest as well. Search his body to find chewed gum wrapped in a piece of paper. Now go into inventory and open up the piece of paper. Three symbols are revealed to you. Write these down. Leave inventory and walk off the edge of the nest. You will drop down into the water. Suddenly, before Roger has the chance to get out of the water, several Latex Babes will intercept him. One of the Latex Babes points a gun and directs him to the submarine. Do as she says. Don't play funny buggers. The submarine will then take him to their lair.
There, Roger is strapped to a chair. While he is on the chair, his pants legs are zapped by Zondra, the leader of the park, so that his legs can be shaved. Just before the shaving starts, a sea slug emerges and frightens the hell out of the Latex Babes. When its tentacles are wrapped around Roger, press the button on the left side. Doing this will zap its tentacles. When Roger is back on his feet again, get one of the oxygen tanks quickly before the slug shoots its tentacles at you and uses them to drag him to its mouth. Throw the oxygen tank into the slug's huge mouth to defeat him. The Latex Babes will appear on screen and embrace their new hero. Then all three of you take off in a ship. Watch the cut-scene that follows.
You will arrive at the Galaxy Galleria Mall. As soon as the Latex Babes go up the escalators, they abandon you and do their own thing. One of them leaves something behind. Hey, lady, you forgot your card. She's long gone. No matter, pick up the ATM card.
Note: Don't go down the escalator. The Sequel Police are at the bottom and they will blast a hole in you.
Go on the east walkway to arrive at the software store, which is packed to the max now. Next to the store is an ATM machine. Try to insert the card on your machine. The machine will refuse Roger access since he doesn't look like the person the card belongs it. We'll deal with this later. Continue on the walkway for three screens and go in the Big and Tall store. There, talk to the clerk about your unfortunate incident with the Latex Babes and he will sell you new pants. In no time, Roger will be back to his old self. Pay the clerk and leave the store.
Go on the walkway moving east and enter Monolith Burger. Talk to him (x2) to be offered a job. Accept the offer. You are about to play an arcade sequence, which you may choose to skip or play. If you decide to play, your work involves placing toppings on burgers, and the toppings are in order. Sounds easy, but there are two catches: you must do this 34 times, and the conveyor belt on which the burgers travel on increases in speed as progress is being made. You score one buckazoid for every burger completed. You can screw up five times before you are fired, causing the manager to boot Roger out, give him a good talking to, and throw his cigar butt at him. If you decide to skip the sequence, the beast will give Roger a good talking to, and throw his cigar butt at him. It is worth nothing that you also score maximum points if you play the sequence, so if you decide to skip, you won't get points.
Follow the west walkway three times and enter Sacks, a women's clothing store. Talk to the clerk who will sell him a black dress and wig, which Roger puts on in the dressing room. When you're out of there, pay the clerk and leave the store. Take the west walkway to return back where you started. Get the cigar butt that was dropped earlier and go on the east walkway to return to the software store. It is empty now, so go on it. After the moose talks to you, look in the bargain bin to your left. Use the Hand cursor to move the software around until you find the Space Quest IV hint book. Look at it. When you are done reading the description, choose Keep from the options that are displayed, then click Done to stop looking. Not only do you get the hint book, you'll also get a hint-revealer pen. Pay for the hint book, then leave.
Now return to the ATM machine and insert the card. Access will now be granted. When some options appear, select Clean House to make Roger 2001 buckazoids richer. Return to Sacks then enter. Walk back into the dressing room to change back to your boring uniform. Ride the east walkway and enter the arcade. Go to the northeast corner of the room. A time pod will materialize and two Sequel Policemen get out. When the first one searches the room, get Roger out of the arcade and go onto the walkway that leads to Sacks, then cross over to the other walkway until you get to another set of stairs. Immediately save the game and follow the stairs down.
The Sequel Police are right behind you. Fly upwards and don't let the Sequel Policeman shoot at you from behind (You spin around if you come in contact with other skaters, giving the Sequel Police the chance to shoot you.) In the next screen, fly toward the other side of the screen and then go down. Finally, go up the stairs, go onto the east walkway, and enter the arcade. The coast is now clear, so enter the pod. Write down the co-ordinates on the display so that you can return to the mall. Now in inventory, open up the SQ4 hint book that you got from the software store, and flip through the book until you find a question that reads I'm in a stupid time pod. Where else can I go? Use the hint-revealer to click on the last answer and write down the three symbols that appear. Remember that piece of paper from the dactyl's nest? You need to input the symbols that were written on it, followed by those in the hint book, and you are out of here.
Anyone who has played the AGI version of Space Quest will know where they are. Exit the pod and go south to arrive at the bar. There are three sand bikes here. Enter the bar. Go up to the bar and try to take the matches. The monochrome boys sitting at the bar will turn around and pick on Roger. Regardless of what version you're playing, they will tease Roger about his detailed appearance and toss him out of the bar. Outside, kick their three bikes over to make the boys come outside and come looking for you. You hide behind Tiny's hut. Once the close is clear, save the game and return to the bar.
Note: If you hear a high-pitched wine, that means that one of the boys are coming for you. When this happens, wait until the bike is close to you, then click on the walk icon to make Roger roll in that direction. The bike should go straight past you, but if you end up dead, restore the game and try again.
Enter the bar again and take the matches. Leave the bar and save the game in case the biker boys show up. Go north and enter the time pod. Punch in the co-ordinates for SQ12 and kiss SQ1 goodbye. When you arrive, the Sequel Police are nowhere to be seen. Leave the pod and walk east (x2) to arrive at a locked door. Since you have no keycard, pour the slime into the lock to break it open. Once you are inside, you see three rings that contain invisible beams that will kill Roger if walks too close to them. In inventory, light the cigar butt with the matches. Leave inventory to make Roger will toss the stogie into the beams, causing them to be visible. You now have to get past these beams by walking between them.
Look at the computer terminal nearby to bring up a keypad. This allows you to adjust the position of the beams. You want them to be completely vertical so that Roger can pass through them and emerge alive. Enter three digits for each box. All three digits must be divisible by 12. If you don't want a three-digit rotation angle, enter before the number you want. Here are the proper angles that need to be input if you are stuck*.
First pair of beams: 156
Second pair of beams: 024
Third pair of beams: 108
* - Only works if the beams are in original position.
When the beams are properly aligned, walk Roger north to get inside the Super Computer, with walkways in which you can move from A to B. Security droids also patrol the area, and they will terminate Roger if they see him. On the screen you enter is a junction box. Look at it and write down the shape of the plug Roger needs to get in order to connect his PocketPal to it. Go outside and return to the pod. Get inside and punch in the co-ordinates for the Galaxy Galleria.
Get out of the pod and leave the arcade. Get on the east walkway and follow it until you get to Radio Shock (Hz So Good in the CD-ROM version). Enter and click on the screen to get some options. Select Catalog followed by Electronic Gadgets. Go through the catalog until you find the PocketPal connector. Order one, and a list of plugs will be displayed. Select the one that matches the plug in the Super Computer. When you are done with that, choose Top Menu and exit the store. Now return to the arcade and get in the time pod. Punch in the SQ12 co-ordinates.
Exit the pod and return to the catwalk. In inventory, use the plug with the PocketPal. Leave inventory and connect the PocketPal with the plug on the junction box. You will receive a map of where you are. It gives you a good idea of where the security droids (blue crosses) are to you (gray rectangle). When you have finished looking at the map, go north, west, then go down the far flight of stairs. There is a security droid already following you, so save the game. At the bottom, wait until a security droid passes you two levels up, then walk back upstairs. Now go east, south, west (x2). Plug the PocketPal into the junction box and Vohaul speaks to you about his son, then the PocketPal shuts down. Go west.
You will come to a huge door with a panel on it. In inventory, open up the hint book and search for the question that reads I'm in a strange room inside the Super Computer. Scary eyeball-looking things stare at me. Bio-mechanical bones liven up the area nicely. How do I get the door open? Click the hint-revealer on the last answer and write the combination down. Leave inventory. Now look at the panel and enter the combination. When you have entered the numbers correctly, the door should open. Enter the door to be led into the programming chamber of the Super Computer. A computer screen appears, displaying a series of icons. You see an icon that looks like a droid. Drag-and-Drop this icon on the toilet. The droids will no longer be patrolling the catwalks. Do the same with the icon that looks like a Brain. When you are done, click the Close button in the upper-left of the screen.
You will find out that the Super Computer is preparing to format everything so you must act quickly. Go east (x3), north, west, down the stairs, west, and enter the glass elevator to arrive at the top level. Exit and go north, east, and north through the glowing door. You will arrive at a room where you meet Vohaul, this time in the body of Roger's son. He will speak to Roger and demand a fight after throwing a disk off the platform. When the fight starts, walk toward Vohaul (x5) and Roger will throw him into the beam. After this, go down the ladder to retrieve the disk and put the disk in the disk drive unit to bring a close-up view of it. You have four options here. Start by clicking Beam Upload to upload Roger Jr. into the Super Computer. Click Beam Upload to upload Vohaul and destroy him. Click Beam Download to download Roger's son back in his own body.
Game over, man.
