Toki: Going Ape Spit

Toki has been at the arcade for quite a while now, and I'm surprised it has taken this long to find its way onto the Amiga. But it's here now and what a game it is. On first impressions it is almost identical to the arcade version, with the graphics and sound being almost perfect. As for the gameplay, well, as anyone who has played the arcade version will know it is totally great and grabs hold of you from the first seconds of play. Ocean have done themselves proud and hopefully all of their future products will keep up this standard. A first class product if ever we saw one.

Unverhofft kommt oft: Sechs ausgedehnte Levels voll abwechslungsreicher Jump'n'Run-Kost verlocken immer wieder zu einem Spielchen. Der Bildschirmausschnitt ist zwar etwas klein geraten, dafür stimmt der Rest. Das Scrolling ist in Ordnung, und grafisch sticht Toki die Konkurrenz locker aus. Der Spielablauf ist erfrischend witzig wie ausgefeilt. Allein die heikle Kollisionsabfrage sorgt in Kombination mit dem harschen Schwierigkeitsgrad anfangs für das eine oder andere Frusterlebnis. Fans des Spielautomaten werden jubilieren, alle anderen Geschicklichkeits-Freaks sollten angesichts dieser rundum geglückten Umsetzung schon mal 80 Mark lockermachen.
