Amiga Mania
Once the battle begins the enemy throw everything at you, large end level nasties, gun emplacements, semi-large mid-level nastie - the works. This is by no stretch of the imagination an original game but it is a classic shoot'em-up that is a must for any software collection.

ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
X-Out is going to please a lot of gamers. The carrot of selecting and purchasing the wide variety of weapons is irresistible and there is so much on the screen at any one time, so much movement and colour that the game is a real visual delight. This is definitely one of the beast shoot 'em ups produced so far. I would rate it on a par with the PC Engine version of R-Type and ahead of things like Katakis and Xenon II.

Zero
A colourful and imaginative shoot'em up with enough variety to guarantee a longer than average shell life.

The Games Machine (UK)
X-Out takes elements from other shoot'em-ups, coin-ups and originals alike, adds ideas of its own, and wraps it all up in quality presentation, pretty graphics and great sound. What more could a trigger-happy gamesplayer ask for?

CU Amiga
X-Out may not be a breath of fresh air, it's not original enough for that, but what it does is offer another option to fans of shoot 'em ups, who are still poorly served after two years of releases.

Zzap!
Rainbow Arts have practically revolutionized the old extra-lives concept by offering you a range of ships to have in your 'fleet', each individually armed!

ASM (Aktueller Software Markt)
Baller-Action vom Feinsten in technisch nahezu perfekter Ausführung: Das bietet nur RAINBOW ARTS' X-OUT!

Amiga Format
Denaris still rules. X-Out is very competent and a good example of the genre, but what new features it has don't lift it head and shoulders above a dozen or so other quality shoot-em-ups. If, however, you really need a new (and different) challenge, then it's well worth checking out.

Power Play

Australian Commodore and Amiga Review
The graphics are highly detailed - lovely backgrounds, brilliant enemy sprites and smooth animation. The sound track is classy too. There's only one problem. X-OUT gives you only one live - blow it, and it's back to the start, with a full disk reload and ship configuration sequence to sit through. Sure, it's fun the first time - but frankly, I haven't got the time to mess around with games that give me 30 seconds of play and 60 seconds waiting time.
