Description
The first expansion pack to Anarchy Online, adds a new dimension (the 'Shadowlands') to the world of Rubi-Ka. This expansion contains 20 new playfields in 7 different themes, 150 new dungeons, 1500 new monsters and tens of thousands of new items. Players can play 2 new professions or extend the existing professions through the new perk specialization system.
The story reveals the past of Rubi-Ka, leading players through the differnt parts of the Shadowlands, an alien world of mankinds's ancestors.
With Shadowlands, Funcom introduces geographical gameplay to MMORPGS, and unlike Rubi-Ka, Shadowlands is a series of playfields that are played in a linear order.

Trivia
On December 18, 2003, members of the "Synergy Factor" guild were the first to enter 'Pandemonium', the seventh and ultimate level of the Shadowlands expansion. This level could only be reached after a a hazardous journey through underwater challenges, poisonous fog, hell frozen over and unbearable heat. Developer Funcom did not disclose any information or screenshots about this level. It took the players no less than two weeks after the release to reach this stage. The ultimate “boss” for the level is yet to be defeated.
