Angry Birds 2

After numerous spin-offs Angry Birds 2 is the direct sequel to the original 2009 Angry Birds. The gameplay closely resembles the original game. The birds are at war with the pigs who steal their eggs. Using the artillery / ballistics gameplay the game consists of different levels where the birds need to be launched using a catapult to bring down the fortified structures of the pigs. A level is completed when all pigs are destroyed, either by being hit by the birds directly or through the debris of the collapsing buildings.

For this version the birds do not longer need to be used in a fixed order. Once they are unlocked a selection is provided per level shown as playing cards in the bottom left corner. Any bird can be selected. The player taps and holds to determine the direction and launches the bird. Once in the air a tap activates the bird's special ability. Levels contain buildings, but also explosive barrels, fans with air streams and flowers that catch the bird or the debris, launching it and causing more destruction. A familiar cast returns. There is Red Bird who can launch a war cry to make the impact more powerful, The Blues can split up into three birds, Chuck uses a fast, slicing attack after a swipe, Matilda lays an egg that boosts her, Bomb explodes and Terence can push through almost anything because of its size. Entirely new for this version is Silver, a bird that swoops in a circle before landing and can smash down vertically to reach places that other birds can't reach with their flight arc. After launching a bird the trajectory remains visible to help players adjust for the next launch.

Spells replace the power-ups of the original version. They are unlocked gradually and can be equipped before starting a game. Golden Duck unleashes a shower of golden ducks, Frost turns every block in the level into ice making it easier to break them, Hot Chili turns a random pig into a timed explosive, Pig Inflater turns every pig into an inflating bubble and Mighty Eagle performs a precision strike cutting through anything as you launch a can of sardines.

Each level consists of two scenes that need to be completed with the selection of birds. After a bird has been used it is no longer available for the level. Causing destruction however fills up a meter in the top right corner and once it is full an extra card is provided. Some levels contain golden pigs that fill up the meter right away. The game is free-to-play with gems as a premium currency combined with an energy/stamina system for lives that regenerates slowly. After running out of birds one or more can be acquired by watching a video advertisement or by buying a continue with gems. Based on the performance up to three stars can be earned to progress on the level path. The game was launched with 240 levels divided over different environments. Every few levels there is a treasure chest and there are boss levels where a very large pig needs to be destroyed or knocked off.

After 25 levels the arena is unlocked as an endless mode to compete on the leaderboards. There are also daily quests.
