DescriptionColors United is a puzzle game about painting an entire field in the same colour using a limited amount of moves. The rules for painting a field depend on the shape used. Squares colour shapes that border one of the four edges, circles colour all surrounding shapes, hexes use their form to reach six bordering shapes at once, and diamond act like squares, but colouring diagonally.
Fields consist of a single type of shape, but with up to six colours (yellow, red, violet, green, blue, orange) and levels are randomly generated based on a certain difficulty level, size and the amount of moves. At the start there is always one flashing shape. The player then taps one of the boxes at the bottom of the screen to choose a colour. All bordering shapes, according to the rules as described in the first paragraph, will then change to that colour along with the flashing shape. By strategically deploying colours it is often possible to capture large parts at once, not only the bordering shapes. After the first shape has changed, a much larger version of the field will be in that colour. From then on many shapes can be coloured at once with the next move. To complete a level all shapes needed to be in a single colour using a limited amount of moves, similar to KAMI for instance. There are also bonus objectives, for instance by completing the field using a specific colour for the last move.
Up to three stars can be earned per level. Every four levels there is a bonus level that is only unlocked based on completing the secondary objectives. There are 75 levels in total, unlocked gradually, also based on the amount of collected stars, with a tutorial and 15 bonus levels. There is a daily challenge to uncover an image with as little moves as possible, competing worldwide on a leaderboard. Multiplayer is supported through a hot seat two-player battle mode and battles against the AI are possible as well. The iOS version has a free zone to play without restrictions.
The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases for coins. Coins are used to add three additional steps to a level instead of having to restart. Coins can also be earned by watching a promotional video and there are in-game advertisements as well.
