DescriptionJoyful Executions is a strategy game that satirizes the propaganda of the North Korean government. Players control Kim Bok Kyong, a young girl who is a North Korean commissar that commands the firing squad punishing traitors. The game consists of different rounds with multiple waves for each one. A wave consists of a number of traitors positioned in front of the firing squad. The main goal is to survive as long as possible and that depends on the approval of the divine leader who rates the performance.
There are four types of characters that can appear in front of the squad and the expected enemies are shown before starting the round. On the right side of the screen a weapon can be chosen. It also displays the remaining waves and ammo. The player has to assess the type and amount of enemies taking into account the limited supply of ammo to instruct the squad of four soldiers to shoot by clicking a Fire icon. There is also a time limit and when it takes too long the wave passes and the enemies remain for the next wave. The round can also be lost when the court is entirely filled up with enemies. Each round has a number of random events, such as double damage, weapon jamming or a soldier dropping out. After each round the performance is rated.
When performing badly, an optional mini game can be played after finishing the round. It shows Kim Bok Kyong in the court with a number of shot enemies lying on the ground. She has to wait until a survivor raises his hand begging for mercy and then quickly tap his hand to shoot. When the mini game is lost, the approval rating goes down even more.
By performing well money is earned that can be spent in an in-game shop. Some of the weapons are a rifle, a machine gun, grenades etc., but each with limited ammo. Ammo needs to be bought and weapons can be upgraded, for instance providing more damage or a larger ammo capacity. The type of weapon has to be assessed and some are more effective against specific types of enemies than others. The game is entirely free to play without in-app purchases.
