Summary

An excellent adventure game

The Good

Many of the authors created extensive worlds in which you could visualize your surrounding environment. Also, Eamon's best feature was that anyone could write an adventure for it. Eamon remains an excellent tool for teaching BASIC programming to newcomers. On top of that, the adventures were usually fun and let the player "explore the world" in a safe way.

The Bad

Although many adventures were excellent, too many of them fell short of the mark. Because anyone could program, you frequently had games written by people who just wanted to make a game, but didn't always include something special with it. For instance, some games have extensive use of magical items or companions which actually did things. Others would be a hum-drum "hack-n-slash" adventure where you just wonder through the maze picking up treasure and trying to find an exit.

The Bottom Line

Eamon is a text based role playing game which allows a player to develop his character over the course of many different adventures. Thus, the experience, weapons, and gold earned in one adventure could be used in another adventure.
