Two 'freeware' fan created remakes has been made adapted from the Apple II version. One for Microsoft Windows XP called, "Taipan for Windows" and PalmPilot handheld (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=4424) systems in 1999.

Original game was created in Basic as text based on TSR-80 computer in 1979. It underwent numerous revisions before being ported to the superior Apple II version which now sported graphics for the ship battle sequences.

During the game is possible to overpay your debt to Elder Brother Wu and earn higher rate of interest than the bank. Later on, you can borrow against it or pay the ever demanding Li Yuen without cancelling out the debt.
