DescriptionWraith is a fantasy role-playing game like the author's previous effort Shadowforge, although it's set in a larger, more detailed world with an updated and expanded rule system. The worship of Metiria is being subverted all over the realm of Araithia; lords and commoners have turned their devotion to a newly-arrived evil power, the Wraith, whose monstrous armies now infest the island. You, guardian of the last Temple of the True Faith, are summoned to seek out and eliminate this evil.
The basics of the game, like its predecessor, are exploration and turn-based combat for gold and experience; besides melee and ranged combat, your character now has the ability to use magical items, and to cast several different kinds of spells - both offensive and defensive. Monsters, too, come in a greater variety, including certain types with special attacks (like paralysis, rust and magic). Not all yield loot when killed, but treasure chests often make up for that.
Araithia consists of several towns, castles and dungeons all accessible from the main island map. Towns are the place to conduct business of all kinds, and to find an inn to rest at, although they contain less wholesome districts, and sometimes even entire dungeons; it is possible to pick fights in the city, and even attack or rob businesses, though the guards don't take kindly to that. Castles and dungeons are comprised of distinct sections, and may contain multiple levels; secret places are abundant everywhere in the game world, and often contain very valuable items.
