The vector graphics in Asteroids, Battlezone, and Tempest look razor sharp, but only if you have an S-Video cable. I found Super Breakout and Battlezone to be somewhat awkward to control. As a nice bonus, you can also modify games settings including the difficulty and number of lives.

Overall these stories and opinions are the byproduct of these tremendous collection of games. In a split second the game can bring you back 20 years and remind you of the feelings you had as a youth standing at one of these games with a crowd of friends cheering you on as you played. You can't go wrong with any of the Greatest Hits Paks. They all contain memories that are in all of us. It is from my own experience that makes me all to aware that I'm 20 years out of practice. But that is the beauty of it all. I can practice all I want to find the only dormant Zen inside of any of the classics. And it doesn't cost me a whole ton of quarters. And maybe I can relive old times and have a lot of fun on the quest to find the Zen. All I can say is that Retro is alive and well and resides in my Playstation. Long live the Retro.
Gamers weaned on polygons and 8-button controllers may balk at the primitive vector graphics and limited one-screen gameplay, and for them we say spend your money elsewhere. But for anyone interested in the history of games, you need look no further. There's even a narrated history section, complete with photos and interviews with the people who programmed the original games It'd make a great Christmas present for dad, too.
It's possible that younger video game players may not remember the likes of Battlezone, Asteroids, and Super Breakout. But Midway's latest installment of Arcade's Greatest Hits - The Atari Collection 1 - is an outstanding tribute to the once great gaming empire. Bringing together six classic games that launched entire video game genres (and stole countless quarters from gamers), The Atari Collection 1 is a wonderful trip down memory lane. This collection features Asteroids, Battlezone, Centipede, Super Breakout, Missile Command, and Tempest. These conversions to the Playstation are true to their arcade counterparts and are still a blast to play.
Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 1 brings perfect emulations of six coin-ops from gaming's golden age together on one CD. Unlike many compilations, there isn't a bad egg in the batch. Asteroids, Battlezone, Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest, and even Super Breakout are all testaments to the axiom: "Gameplay is where it's at."

The decision is yours. Personally, though, most of us found these games to be hugely disappointing and didn't want to play beyond a couple of go's.
