DescriptionThis is the among the oldest of battles: cat vs. dog.
You are the cat. You are trying to gather up the cat food pellets in a maze. As wonderful as that may be, the pesky canines are determined to catch you. You are chased by three dogs through the maze. Periodically, a green potion will appear. If the cat gets the green potion, it will transform into a dog catcher's truck and can capture the dogs. Any dog captured is sent to the pound at the top of the screen where they remain until the potion wears off, at which time they then start chasing you again. A bag of catnip will appear in the maze. You can grab it for extra points. The goal is to eat all the cat food pellets in the maze without losing all your lives.

Development and releaseCat Trax began life as a straight Pac-Man clone, called Crazy Gobbler for the Emerson Arcadia 2001 system. Before its American release, the Pac-Man and ghost sprites were changed into cats and dogs, to avoid the kind of legal problems which were brought by official home licencee Atari upon Philips/Magnavox for its K.C. Munchkin! game. The original Gobbler version was published in Europe, alongside the cats-and-dogs version.
The Atari 2600 version never saw a full release, instead only showing up in a 128-in-1 cartridge under the title Cat and Mouse, and was in 2003 re-issued on its own by Atariage.
UA Limited, who made this game, made several other more or less orthodox Pac-Man clones for the Arcadia and its various related systems, and often reused code between the games.
