In addition to the instructions, Starmaster also came with a strategy book called "The Power of the Starmaster".

If, on game 1 (Ensign), you achieved a final score of 3800 or more and sent a picture of your TV screen showing this, Activision would send you an "Order of the Supreme Starmaster" patch (http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/patches/StarmasterSupreme.jpg). Also, if you got 5700 point in Game 2 (Leader), 7600 points in Game 3 (Wing Commander) and/or 9000 points in Game 4 (StarMaster) and sent pictures of these, there were additional chevron patches you could get (http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/patches/StarmasterChevrons.jpg).
