This is a fast do or die zapping game that succeeds where many pretenders fail. The plot isn't exactly original, but the gameplay is totally addictive and will cause much wear and tear to your joystick. Strap yourself down, hold on to your joystick as if your life depended on it and get those nasties before they get you.
ST/Amiga Format
Last Duel is another release from Tiertex, the people who created Thunderblade. It's not in the same league but that doesn't stop it from being a fairly good release. The graphics aren't brilliant and it wouldn't win any prizes for innovate techniques but being a vertically scrolling shoot-em-up, it's the type of game that'll have you hooked for hours.
ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
It's standard arcade fare, enlivened only by the two-player option. Fair enough for shoot-em-up fans but offers nothing special.
The One
More importantly, the gameplay is very slow (even on the later levels) and there's never any really frantic action. The simultaneous two-player option doesn't help matters as the small playing area makes things very cluttered. On the plus side there's an atmospheric theme tune and bouncy in-game jingles that add to the game, but not enough to redeem it. If you've already got Xenon or Sidewinder you'll be used to classier shoot 'em ups than this by now.
Computer and Video Games (CVG)
The graphics are quite nice. The scrolling is a little slow, and the left and right scrolling is downright appalling. The sprites are quite smoothly animated, but the collision detection is a little on the stingy side. On the whole the game is reasonable. Not a stormer, but not a dire. Well, at least it's better than LED Storm.
