Atari ST User (Feb, 1987)
It is a classy mixture of the old faithful elements from the TV series and the latest advances in computer graphics and sound technology. One gets the feeling it's the sort of game you would find Captain Kirk playing with in a spare off duty moment. A must for all ST owners - I know that I'll certainly be spending a good deal of time with my ST as soon as the final copy comes through.
Computer Gamer (Apr, 1987)
But until Beyond - or others, do the conversion work, trekkies can only look on with envy unless, of course, they rush out and buy an ST. They won't be disappointed with this guaranteed number one hit.
Endlich mal wieder was Ausgefallenes!!!
Unfortunately, there isn't enough room here to go into all aspects of the game, it's neat touches, the obvious attention to detail, and the hundreds of sub-plots. If you're into strategy/adventure games with great graphics, digitised speech, a huge and flexible playing environment, or just happen to be trekky, then this one's for you.
Tilt (Feb, 1988)
Happy Computer (May, 1987)
If you're a big Star Trek fan you'll be bowled over by the graphics and sound as soon as you see the game, but your awe is unlikely to last. As with Defender of the Crown on the Amiga the inspired presentation masks humdrum gameplay, and even with the unhelpful icons you'll soon find survival and exploration far too easy. With a safe, well equipped star system as a base you can keep going as long as your interest lasts: but unless you're a mapping enthusiast with a low boredom threshold, that probably won't be very long.
With six different ways to complete the game and with the massive universe created in it, Star Trek provides plenty to do, but we did think that after several hours play the variety of do-able things began to look a bit thin. However, it is certainly a lot better than its first impression implies.
Overall, this can be described as an excellent adventure game for the ST. Though some will claim that it is simply a "cosmic scavenger hunt," this reviewer feels that it has enough action and puzzles to satisfy most adventure gamers. For those who are Star Trek fans, there should be no question about the need to add this game to your collection.
