The Games Machine (UK)
Playability is what counts, though, and when the mildly awkward controls have been mastered, Xybots has bags of this.

Computer and Video Games (CVG)
Highly recommended to fans of the coin-op, and to those who have a partner handy for a two-player blast. Single players are advised to give it a go before shelling out their dosh.

ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
On the ST Xybots is a novel entertaining blaster, particularly when played with a friend.

I found it hard to tear myself away even in one player mode. Two are definitely better though, adding both to the distance you are likely to get into the game and the pleasure of cooperating - if you can cope with the controls.

Power Play

The One
The control method, on the other hand, is initially confusing, though it's hard to see another way in which the coin-op's two button system could have been implemented, and once you're accustomed to the awkwardness, it works well. If you were to judge Xybots purely as an arcade conversion, it would score very highly; as a game in its own right it's not brilliant - but it is good, coming into its own with two players.

ASM (Aktueller Software Markt)
