Description

Zwyrds Doppelkopf-Programm is an implementation of the German card game Doppelkopf (Wikipedia entry with the game description and rules). Unlike most other card games, the official rules are not widely accepted and each local playing round is choosing from a wide range of additional rules, scoring system and even the type of cards to play. In general, Doppelkopf is a game for four players and two players form a team, but the teams are not known in advance (in a normal game the two players with a Queens of Clubs on hand play together), creating diversified games and tactics. The game is played with 40 or 48 cards, with each card contained twice in the deck. There are a plethora of special rules and modes, some played as "solo", in which a single player plays against the three others (in many different variations), others appear if certain conditions are matched (like a player has only three trumps ("Armut") or holding both Queens of Clubs ("Hochzeit")).

The accurate computer game implementation allows a single human player to play with three computer controlled players. Many of the special rules can be configured: the game allows playing with nines (48 card deck) or without (40 card deck). The actions on holding both Diamond Aces ("Schweine") can be configured as well as the many different extra-points to get during the play. The types of "solo" games can be configured and by default the trump game, Queens, Jack Solo, No trumps ("Fleischlos"), or even King-Queens-Jacks ("Köhler") are integrated. Players can make calls (to increase points), and the game is showing the current amount of points made during the round, as well as the information currently available (who played a Queen of Clubs). The amount of rounds and even the type of scoring can be configured. Special rules in which new cards are instantly distributed (like a player holding five kings or a no trump above a certain card) are implemented and can be configured, too. The strength of the computer AI cannot be configured and is not flawless, but in general the playing style of the computer opponents is very competent. Extensive statistics about the games, reached points, special points can be shown and a gaming session can be saved and continued later.

The game is programmed in GFA Basic and the source code comes with the game. The in-game language is German.

Zwyrds Doppelkopf-Programm Atari ST In general I have rubbish cards here, but I have no heart (the heart jack is a trump), so I can play any card now (preferably trump)
