Description

Avoid oil slicks, pile-ups and wear and tear to cross the finish line in Autocross Racing. This top-down arcade racing game takes place over ten courses which feature three different environments ranging from snowy to desert.

At the start of the game only one level is open while the rest are locked. With each placement in the top three you will unlock a level in the order listed in the main menu. The race-tracks occasionally feature alternate routes such as a muddy pathway that you can use instead of the asphalt. Some pathways criss-cross over the asphalt leading to an occasional pile-up. Hazards on the tracks are not limited to the other cars as the vehicles cause damage to each other on collision. Other things to be watching out for are oil slicks which will spin your car out, and off-roading which will slow you down immensely. Taking shortcuts around corners is possible but a larger shortcut may lead you to miss one of the invisible checkpoints and therefore may lead you to quickly lose your position. An in-game mini map will help you determine your course.

You initially start off with the cheapest car on the lot and by winning races you not only unlock tracks but unlock cars and earn money depending on your placement. Use this money to buy better vehicles. When you purchase a car, however, you automatically lose the previous one you had. Luckily enough each successive car listed is better then the one before it in handling and top-speed. Your opponents drive similar cars as the ones you unlock and you will be facing twenty of them on each race. All those cars on such tight tracks often lead to interesting pile-ups at the first turn.

Handling your car is keyboard controlled. As is typical in arcade racing games you have acceleration, break, and nitro boosters. Pit stops are in place near the beginning of the track which you can visit after the first lap to fix any damage you suffer. Laps can be set by the player and can range from 1 to 99.
