Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II

Känslan är häftig. Gillar man körspel så är det detta man ska skaffa till sin Mäggadrajv. Se'n räcker det. Om ni redan har SMGP så är det mycket tveksamt om förbättringarna är värda 595 spänn: om inte - köp! Ifall ni gillar körspel, alltså.

It must be said that great though this is, it's far too much like the original Super Monaco GP for its own good. The programmers have obviously used large chunks of the original Super Monaco GP program and simply added a few extra features. The in-game graphics are virtually identical, it plays in exactly the same way and even the sound is very similar indeed. When you consider what could have been done to the game - new graphics, an F1 Exhaust Heat-style car setup system, record tables, maybe even a split-screen two-player mode - it's painfully obvious that Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II is an opportunity missed in a big way. At the end of the day, it's a fun and exciting race game, one of the best available on the Megadrive, but it's definitely nowhere near different enough to be worth buying if you've already got Super Monaco GP. If you haven't, though, check it out.

Ärtans GP finns nu tillgängligt även på Master System (och Game Gear). Vi har samma klagomål på de här som på 16-bitarsorginalet: ljudet är sämre än i Super Monaco GP! Växellägena ligger tätare, och det ökar förstås realismen en aning, men ljudet är dålig hjälp när det gäller att hitta rätt. Har ni redan SMGP så är det tveksamt om det är värt att skaffa ASGP.

Ich habe mehr erwartet: Sega hat's in zwei Jahren nicht auf die Reihe gebracht, Super Monaco Grand Prix 2 mit innovativen neuen Features gegenüber dem Vorgänger aufzuwerten. Die Grafik ist etwas flüssiger, ansonsten beinahe identisch. Das größte Manko liegt in der fehlenden Realitätsnähe. Man flitzt mit Vollgas um die Kurve, bremst höchst selten ab und kommt dazu noch besser um diese, wenn sie auf der Innenseite angefahren wird. Jeder Formel-1-Fahrer, der das nachmachen würde, brettert in die nächste Planke. Ansonsten übt das actionlastige, unfallträchtige Geschehen seinen klassischen Reiz aus. Wer den ersten Teil besitzt, braucht auf den zweiten nicht zu sparen.

Un titolo migliorato rispetto al suo predecessore praticamente in ogni aspetto e se siete fan di questo sport probabilmente è quanto di meglio potete ottenere dal vostro Master System

Grafica ottima, sonoro buono, giocabilità alta, longevità discreta. Un seguto che migliora quasi tutto ma che si dimentica dell’opzione per due giocatori. Che dire, un vero peccato.

Bref, avec trop peu d'options pour la rendre intéressante, une animation trop faible pour donner un véritable effet de vitesse et un challenge trop imprécis pour passionner le joueur, on peut se dire que cela ne vaut vraiment pas la peine d'acheter cette deuxième édition : autant en rester à la première.

The one example that defines the whole experience is the “new” sound of squealing tires that sounds like someone running their nails down a chalkboard. The folks at Sega should have allowed Senna to have more input to the gameplay! It was around this time in Sega history that I realized that most celebrities who lend their name to a Sega game “go down” with the bad game. Senna and this game were dead months after its release (although Sega had nothing to do with his demise, that was due to faulty equipment in his Williams Renault). Hey, it’s just a theory, not a fact!
