Bakery Story is a simulation game very similar to Restaurant Story. The player manages a bakery (which also acts like a cafe), purchasing basic furniture (tables and chairs) and equipment (ovens, a counter, etc.). It is also possible to choose the types of floor, walls and windows, as well as decorate the establishment with various objects. Customers will gradually begin to visit the bakery; the player's goal is to serve various types of pastry and non-alcoholic drinks (such as coffee) to them, keeping an eye on their mood and trying to upgrade the bakery, increase its size and generally make it more attractive.

The game flows in real time: even when the player is not actively participating, visitors keep coming and going, money is being earned, and new items gradually become available. The game can only be played online, and social interaction plays an important role. Players can view each other's bakeries, send virtual visitors and gifts, leave comments, and chat with each other. Successful socializing aids players to increase the level of the bakery, unlocking new features and achievements.
