Battle Lode Runner came onto the scene in 1993 after a successful life in the arcades. Hudson took the title and gave it the graphics the equivalent of triple bypass surgery. The new Battle Lode Runner brought a fantastic blend of brain-melting puzzles and brutal multiplayer action to the PC Engine. Now with its US debut, you can experience this rare classic for the first time on your Wii™ Virtual Console™!
In Puzzle Mode you control Lode Runner, navigating levels of platforms, ladders, and hanging pipes trying to collect all of the gold scattered throughout the map. This task isn’t easy though, as baddies ranging from scary (but cute) dinosaurs, mobsters, and even Black Bomberman scour the level hunting you down! Thankfully you have your handy vaporizer equipped. Just shoot out the floor and trap your enemies to gain some thinking time. The concept seems simple doesn’t it?
Wrong! Prepare to be utterly challenged, victorious, demoralized, and hopelessly addicted all in a matter of minutes! The gameplay gets absolutely frantic when you have to solve seemingly simple puzzles to reach the gold and dodge all of the bad guys at the same time without trapping yourself in a rematerializing piece of the floor!
And if that isn’t enough to satiate your gamers’ appetites, you can also play with up to 4 players in Battle Mode! Play “Survivor” and scamper around the level like crazed rodents in a hamster maze trying to eliminate your rivals by crushing them in rematerializing tiles. “Escape” pits players against each other as they try to avoid being annihilated by baddies raining down from the heavens! Finally, “Tag Battle” allows team multiplayer craziness for some two-on-two action!
What happens when you’ve played the puzzle and battle modes to death?! Take advantage of Edit Mode! Here you can build your OWN levels! Make them as easy or as hard as you want! With the editor it is entirely possible to create infinite variations of Lode Runner insanity! Check out Battle Lode Runner for Wii™ Virtual Console today!
