Description
Beautiful Katamari is the first game in the series to appear on a Microsoft console. Gameplay is similar to earlier entries: the player controls a prince who rolls katamari for the King of All Cosmos. The king accidentally ruined the cosmos during a game of tennis and a black hole is sucking up all matter. The prince needs to help by rolling katamari in various missions to restore the galaxy. The katamari can only pick up objects smaller than itself, but as more are gathered, it grows in size.
The main menu area has been turned into a princedom, a galaxy where the prince can wander around, talk to people and choose one of the missions. New cousins appear here, and bonus features include a photo mode, new levels and statistics.
Continuing the multiplayer options introduced in
Me & My Katamari, different kinds of modes are available. Offline, players can battle against each other or work cooperatively by both controlling a single katamari (one analog stick per player). Online, up to 4 players can compete in different game modes with leaderboards and a main lobby. The objective ranges from creating a katamari as large as possible, or building it up from specific parts as instructed by the king.
