Bill Walsh College Football does have its minor problems, but don't let that stop you from playing it. EA Sports has done it again with Bill Walsh College, a Heisman Trophy front-runner.
Most of the fun in Bill Walsh College Football can be found in playing it yourself and amassing stats and creating football memories that would rival some of the all time great plays and games that have been played on the frozen tundras and fields of battle. The game is not spectacularly built; I mean its just basically Madden'94 with smaller and slower players, so where in the face value is the greatness? I guess if by face value you mean the front of the box – which is excellent. Look at it. It almost says "Welcome to Joe Bill Walsh College Football" just like in Joe Montana Football. This is such a good game, but like the kids on the beloved show Reading Rainbow say, don't take my word for it! Go out and pick this one up, it's pure football greatness.

So why wait for fall and the kickoff of another college football season? Bill Walsh College Football makes you feel like you're on campus - without all those boring classes to attend.

Including last year's top 24 college teams plus another two dozen all-time best, this one really shines. The overall effect is a more exciting, emotional game than John Madden. (4-Way Play compatible).

Bill Walsh College Football has a few minor flaws, but don't let that keep you from putting it at the top of the Heisman Trophy list. EA Sports has done it again.

The game does have its share of faults, however. It needs a battery to save statistics and season progress. The computer is not hard to beat, although it is better at playing defense than previous football games. It is also slow to react to your tendencies, so don't be surprised when you march up and down the field using only the "Hail Mary" play while the computer seems clueless. By the time it reacts, you're already up by two or three touchdowns! Fortunately, Bill Walsh College Football supports Hudson Soft's Super Multitap for five-player action, so you can take on a few friends for a real challenge. While Bill Walsh College Football may not grab you if you already own and enjoy Madden NFL '94, if you're a fan of the triple option, your game has arrived.

The music is also drastically improved. According to the box, this CD contains "enhanced graphics throughout", but you'd have to be pretty observant to notice. Another bonus feature is a series of Bill Walsh video clips, in which he describes just about every aspect of the college game, but only die-hards will be able to sit through these. One disappointment is that despite the higher capacity of a CD, there are still only 48 teams available.
GenesisAll Game Guide
If you already own a copy of one of the John Madden Football titles, you shouldn't invest your hard-earned money in Bill Walsh College Football. The game isn't as exciting as it should be, but if you prefer the college game over the NFL, consider a rental.

Playing this game may give you deja-vu, because it's basically Madden '94 with college teams and a new playbook. Since Madden '94 isn't so bad, Bill Walsh isn't bad either, but it doesn't really offer anything new like the Sega College Football games did. You can play as one of 48 teams, including 24 from 1992 and the top 24 since 1978. The problem is you'll want to play as your hometown team, but chances are it isn't included! See the Madden '94 review for more details on gameplay.
