Een absolute must have.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. I liked the story line (notions of Judge Dredd-era type corporate civil wars sit well with me, in general). I liked the characters (characters with sick weaponry and javelins protruding from their chests also sit well with me). It's better than the Mortal Kombats in terms of incidental gore and carnage and just about as good as Tekken 3 in terms of animation and 3D simulation. Get this game! Horrify and amaze your friends!

Biofreaks is for the gamer with a slightly twisted sense of humor. The animations in the game are certainly fluid as the fighters move and fly around very smoothly. Although there are not dozens of different combos for each character - about twenty - there are enough to keep the game interesting. Like I said... if you don't take it too seriously the effects will provide a few laughs among your mates after the pub closes.

Biofreaks has a certain flash and appeal, but it may not have the lasting replay value that die-hard fight fans want. Torn limbs and splattered blood gets old after a few matches.

With games like Tekken 3 and Mortal Kombat out there, Bio Freaks doesn't stand a chance. It isn't that much fun to play, and you'll catch yourself loading up an older fighting game on your drive rather than this one. I think you'll find you'll get bored with it very quickly.

The problems in Bio FREAKS aren't many, but they are large enough to seriously affect how fun the game is. Bio FREAKS is more of a comical game, overly gory with a relatively simple control system, that makes a good diversion but not much of a lasting experience.

Bio Freaks, for sure, is a different kind of fighter, and it's bound to attract many gamers who are tired of the same old Street Fighter-stye game (although I never tire of SF). But no one has really ventured into fighting the way this game does (not with as much success, anyway), and in many ways Bio Freaks is a surprisingly fun game.

Bio Freaks is quite possibly the best looking fighting game we've ever seen. Midway's Dave Simon and team should be commended for the game's excellent character designs and animation. However, gamers looking for a serious fighting engine should be aware that while Bio Freaks does deliver a balanced set of moves and options, the game has a long way to go before it can compete with the likes of serious fighters like Tekken and Virtua Fighter. If you enjoy the Mortal Kombat games, or if you're interested in mindless, bloody fun, then we don't see how you can go wrong with Bio Freaks. Serious fighting fans may want to rent before they buy though.

Most should rent the game once just to try something new and to take a look at the beautiful graphics. While I'm sure it will strike a chord with some, most will probably tire of Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. fairly quickly.

In the grand scheme of things, Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. will fall into the category of "just one of those fighting games." Most should rent the game once just to try something new and to take a look at the beautiful graphics. While I'm sure it will strike a chord with some, most will probably tire of Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. pretty easily.

What's most surprising about Bio Freaks is the excessive gore. The blood isn't particularly heavy, but you can actually dismember your opponent (although you probably won't even notice until the dust settles). Bio Freak's audio is painfully weak, with generic grinding guitars and voice samples I could barely discern. I've played worse fighting games in my time, but I try not to.
