Endlich!

Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII isn’t the first WWII-era flying game for a Microsoft console, and it surely won’t be the last, although Ubisoft Romania could care less where their new franchise falls within this chronology. This savvy development house does, however, care deeply about how Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII will be acclaimed, especially when compared to the previous WWII fly-boy lot; Secret Weapons over Normandy and Heroes of the Pacific.

A few small issues stopped this from getting a better score, but as this is the first Flying game on the 360 I thought it did a Fantastic job of capturing the atmosphere of being a pilot in WW2.

I had a great time playing Blazing Angels if for no other reason that it was something new on the PS3. And as much as it surprises me to say this, I truly believe this is the first PS3 port to actually turn out better than it's 360 counterpart. The graphics are a touch better and the sound is much more dynamic, and all the extra content really puts a nice polish on an already-excellent game. And as long as you don’t go into this thinking it’s a flight-sim you won’t be disappointed. Blazing Angels controls and plays great, offering some intense arcade thrills and looks fantastic while doing it. The campaign missions serve as a great tutorial for the countless hours you will likely be spending online with this game.

The graphics aren't as dazzling as I would like, but the PS3 version has the added bonus of offering two new missions and an exclusive multiplayer mode. If you're just looking for a good dogfight, this might be your game.

Blazing Angels has an intensity that brings me back to it. It is a game that I would urge you to play. I have listed a number of drawbacks that are only made so glaring because of the skill at which the rest of the game is made. I wish they would have just done a little more. Added some control options, some more interesting twists to the typical dogfights, and cleaned up those few places where the graphics fall apart. At one point I grew frustrated with a mission and started screwing around. I spotted a bunch of sheep in a pasture and swooped down upon them, amazed at the level of detail. Then I flew low over some water, shooting it with my machine guns and flying through the spray it caused. Blazing Angels has so much going for it that I want you to take my harsh words and use them not as a deterrent but as a warning. So you don't go into it with the lofty expectations I did. So it doesn't take you as long to find those moments, big and small, that make this such a fascinating game.

That's one of the crimes of the current game industry. While Blazing Angels isn't completely original, it separates itself enough to be an Xbox 360 highlight. If the online play is any indication, no one knows this. It deserves to be recognized for what it does right, though try and ignore the inexcusable dialogue as much as possible.

Screaming low over the roofs of London while unleashing a scorching fury of bullets into a formation of hapless Nazi pilots brings a joy that warms our justice-loving hearts for days afterward. Executing a flawless barrel-roll in between the legs of the Eiffel Tower to evade a German ace hell-bent on swiss-cheesing your fuselage delivers unmatched satisfaction. While tooling around in a WWII plane may not sound complicated, that lack of complexity is exactly what makes it such good fun.

Well, it's good to see a World War 2 game that's not a FPS for a change. This flying game is part sim, but feels largely like an arcade approximation of air combat. The planes feel surprisingly solid to control, and thanks to an intelligent camera that locks onto targets and other planes, strafing, bombing and firing is a breeze. It can be quite unforgiving at times but for the most part it's thoroughly enjoyable.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is the first air combat title to arrive on the 360. Much like Heroes of the Pacific for the original Xbox, this game deals with a lot of aerial combat during the WWII era allowing you to relive great battles like Pearl Harbor and Midway.

While the game can become slightly repetitive, namely the easy dogfights, as well as the occasional difficulty spikes that can lead to frustration, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is a worthwhile arcade flight combat title that is solid in both its single player and multiplayer offering. With the lack of good flight titles on home consoles, Blazing Angels will likely please most console-owning flight enthusiasts.

You just have to know what you're in for with Blazing Angels (if you haven't already played it on Xbox). It's much in the same vein as Crimson Skies although I'm sure there will be endless argumnents as to which one is more realistic. Let me just say "neither" and end it already. BA is best played online, but the single player mode can be fun for awhile; it may not capture everyones attention span for the entire 20 missions.

I'm willing to put up with these technical annoyances because some missions are great fun, bit I'm a little let down because the moments of brilliance tell me that the whole game could have been better with a little more time and polish.

Crimson Skies evenaren, laat staan overtreffen, is echter ijdele hoop.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is a decent World War II military aircraft game that excels at some of the things it does and is decent in other aspects. I didn't know what to expect when putting Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII into my Xbox 360, but I would have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It has some control issues that will take some time to get use to and the voice-acting isn't the greatest, but the total package is decent. Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII maybe isn't the best game I have ever played, but it was enjoyable to play while working on this review and I may pick it up from time-to-time in the future for some more Xbox Live dogfights. Hopefully, I won't continue to embarrass myself by going down in flames over and over again, but I probably will.

Statt knallhartem Realismus erleben Sie aufregende Dogfights an traumhaften Schauplätzen.

PlayStation 3PSX Extreme
In the end, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is indeed a better version of the original released last year. There are several significant improvements, but none of them are enough to vault the game into the enviable "buy-it-now" category. The PS3 may not have what we'd call an extensive software lineup right now, though, and if you're desperate for a decent game that keeps your attention, and you're partial to flight games, you might want to give this one a try. And if you have a buddy that is equally open to the idea, and you get really crankin' with some of those super fun multiplayer modes, it could be well worth the money. But for most people, this game simply isn't refined enough to warrant a purchase. The technicals are all solid but never spectacular, the presentation and depth is acceptable but not impressive, and the gameplay is always accessible and usually fun, but rarely intense and gripping.

Xbox 360Deaf Gamers
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is a solid addition to the available games for the Xbox 360. Sure for some it may be too easy and those looking for a simulation will be disappointed. However, those looking for a straightforward, arcade style air combat game should enjoy what Blazing Angels has to offer. The aircraft are easy to handle, dogfights are easier than they are in most games and the multiplayer options are plentiful. In truth the missions could have been more entertaining but on the whole there's still quite a bit of fun to be had from the game and it's definitely worth checking the demo out on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII takes flight on the Xbox 360 as the first flight combat game for the console. Ubisoft’s title throws you into some of the most memorable air battles of WWII as you lead an elite flying unit named the Blazing Angels. The game has a lot of promise, but is it really worth your purchase?

I so wanted to like Blazing Angels. I kept playing it thinking there was more, or something I missed that was jading me. But in the end the game is just not that good for me. Maybe it's the unchangeable controls that lead to flying problems when using the tracking camera view. Maybe it's the fact that I almost fell asleep playing it because it was just too easy. But, it does have some very nice online play. Too bad you have to unlock planes in the Campaign mode to play them online. You might want to wait for that game to come out. This one isn't anymore than a rental at best. Hey, you can't win them all. Even UbiSoft once in a blue moon makes a game I don't like. It happens.

Xbox 360Gaming Target
The Xbox 360 certainly has plenty of games in the action and shooting categories, but none of them fall into the subcategory of flight combat - Blazing Angels stands as the first. The WWII-themed title comes from Ubisoft and it is also available on Xbox and PC; the fact that it exists across the original Xbox up to the Xbox 360 and PC can be noted quite easily in the Xbox 360 version, for both right and wrong reasons. That is to say, the game uses some graphical touches on the Xbox 360 version that are impressive, but also displays some pretty mediocre presentation in other areas that is obviously catering to the lower-powered Xbox.

The single player section of Blazing Angels is fun in spurts, but it's certainly not addictive or contain an ounce of personality. The multiplayer would be the only reason this game should stick around in your 360 game library. That being said, the multiplayer game doesn't warrant a purchase at full price, but you should still give it a look. Anyone who enjoys a decent flight shooter should pick up Blazing Angels once it hits the $20 to $30 mark. Otherwise, give it a rent and blast some flyboys for those precious gamerscore points.

Blazing Angels is a solid if unspectacular arcadey combat sim that offers up plenty of fun – guns, bombs, explosions, and fire aplenty. If you’re at all a fan of the genre, you won’t be disappointed by the variety of aircraft and missions. Even if you’re not, it’s an extremely accessible game that offers plenty of depth and options for newbies and hardcore fliers alike. If you’ve ever wanted to take a tour of the Second World War from the unfriendly skies, Blazing Angels does a fine job bringing you there.

But it all comes down to gameplay, and on that front Blazing Angels is decent. The controls aren't as reactive as we'd like, as you have to move the Remote or Nunchuk (depending on your chosen control style) a long way up or down to make the plane rise and fall, but once you get used to it it's not so bad. There's also a camera lock that keeps the camera focused on the enemy, allowing you to plan your moves based on their position. Overall, Blazing Angels is pretty unremarkable - the controls are initially frustrating but you'll have fun if you stick with it. If you're not too fussed about the era your flying games are set in then you should get Heatseeker before this, but if you fancy a bit of old-school WWII action then this is your best bet for now.

If you're fortunate enough to have secured a PS3 over the holiday season, Blazing Angels is probably not the first title you'll want to pick up in order to launch your collection, but it certainly should not be the last, because you could do a lot worse. It's a "must have" only if you're a huge flying fanatic or maybe if you are a WWII buff, but otherwise, you might just want to stick with renting.

PlayStation 3Video Game Generation
Based on what I played of the Xbox 360 version, Blazing Angels is not normally a game I would recommend. Sure, it has that next-gen look, a variety of modes to enjoy, and it is another game in a usually under-represented genre, but it also has its problems. For example, the WWII thing has been done to death in video games, and the sappy story they wrap around the main game doesn’t make it anymore enjoyable. The load times, for a game on next-gen game, are long and annoying, breaking up the action – the same problem I had with the game’s lack of explanation or training on some crucial elements. And, worst of all, the game is bugged to the core, with everything from game freezes to invincible planes. However, the game does work, and it works well with the motion controls, something that (right now) you can only get on the PS3, which also offers free online play, for what it’s worth. So, while I wouldn’t recommend you run right out and buy this game, it is certainly worth a rental.

Blazing Angels is a solid arcade experience that at times looks stunning where as other times looks pretty dull, which might not be agreeable with the masses of graphics junkies out there. The game play is very solid and easy to get to grips with, whether you are a casual or hardcore gamer. I found Blazing Angels does have that all important fun factor especially when you couple the single player and online modes together. If you are renting the game then obviously you won’t have enough time to fully experience the entirety of Blazing Angels, which in my opinion would be a shame. Despite a few niggles with graphics and sound and perhaps being a little repetitive everything seems to work just fine albeit on a rather basic level.

Ubisoft's Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII takes flight on the PlayStation 3, following its tour of duty on the Xbox 360. This version of the flying ace on Sony's machine does not score quite the same as the previous, but many of its features do provide enjoyment. Annoying enemy chatter and slow downs somewhat mar the presentation. However, the developers deserve props for utilizing the motion sensing abilities of Sony's SIXAXIS controller, giving pilots a better hands-on feel with their planes. Online play offers numerous modes– although setting up a match takes quite a bit of time.

Overall, Blazing Angels isn't a bad game. It's not great, and it's very debatable as to whether it deserves the £10 premium for the 360 version over the Xbox version, but it's definitely worth consideration (maybe a rental) for those spoiling for a dogfight.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII didn't change much in its transition to the PS3. It did, however, add a few new missions and planes, as well as a rewarding multiplayer mode not included in previous versions. Also, while the Sixaxis functionality offers an alternate control method, it doesn't really improve the game very much. It's fun to use for a while, but when it comes to accuracy, players will likely opt for the analog sticks.

Aerial combat is here to stay. And I, for one, am glad to see its arrival. I mean, a first-person shooter can have all the mainstay presence it desires, but I would rather have the opportunity to be in the air, making shrapnel out of my airborne and ground-based enemies with a few sprays of bullets. That's just the thing to get some excitement going, the danger that there really isn't too much space to hide in when you're flying in the wide open in a high-speed jet or plane. But that's just my personal taste.

Fasten those seatbelts tight. Blazing Angels hits some serious turbulence as the first air combat game on the Xbox 360. Fasten those seatbelts tight. Blazing Angels hits some serious turbulence as the first air combat game on the Xbox 360. The Bombs Keep Coming Blazing Angels puts you in the WWII cockpit of some of the most revered fighter and bomber planes of that time. But don't expect a simulation that rivals the already crowded WWII flying genre on the PC.

Still somewhat hot on the heels of Ubisoft's last World War II flight combat game, which was released on the Xbox and PlayStation 2 six months ago, comes Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII on the Xbox 360. This is about as standard as a mission-based flight game can get--you'll get to bomb targets, dogfight, and defend a lot of stuff in a variety of era-specific planes. While it's a competent package, it doesn't stand out in any way, even though it's the first of its kind on Microsoft's new console.

Overall, as aeronautic enthusiasts, we were pretty happy with this game. Currently it serves as the only way to use the Sixaxis as a flight controller, even if it’ kind of lame. The gameplay will definitely satiate fans of this type of game, but it’s highly unlikely that this one will be enthralling enough to pull in new fans to this dying genre. Since the planes are all period machines, the sense of speed and G-force you get from a MiG or an F-22 Raptor just aren’t there; but if you’ve got aviation in your blood and a PS3 on your shelf, you should give this one a try.

Overall, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is not a bad game, and if you’re into aerial combat, or just planes in general, you’re probably going to have a good time with this one. But chances are, if you haven’t got it by now, you’d be better off waiting until Warhawk hits our PS3s later this year. That is, unless you particularly want a single-player campaign.

Ubisoft was wise to release Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII on PlayStation 3 and fill a much-needed Sixaxis motion control void, but in the process of rushing it out the door, the developers appear to not have had enough time with the final console hardware required to optimize framerates and the PlayStation 3 community is not robust enough yet to continually fill 16 slots for online play. The game does still look as pretty as it did on Xbox 360, and for newcomers to the now "series" of Blazing Angel games, the overly easy single-player mode conquerable in well under 10 hours (assuming analog stick use only) makes for a perfect rental.

The game gets some points for the innovative use of the controls, but otherwise it's somewhat predictable and sadly lacking in the "fun" department. Just an average game on what should be an un-average system.

Blazing Angels is up against some tough competition on the PC in this genre. Online multiplayer is its strongest point; the single-player campaign quickly becomes monotonous because of the lack of challenge and the unbalanced "squad-based" gameplay. Visually, Blazing Angels hits, and misses, but it looks good in general. It would be a good idea to crank up the sound for the cinematic score and the outstanding sound effects if it weren't for Joe continually blathering about your busted fuel line. The controls are simple and intuitive and anyone can jump in and learn the game in a few minutes. Flying through the historical battles are fun the first time, but after you complete the game you'll feel more of a sense of relief than elation because, without any real story, the game lacks emotional appeal.

There's been plenty of good air-combat games on the Xbox, most notably Heroes of the Pacific and Crimson Skies. So how does Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII compare? Well, for every one thing Ubisoft's flyer does well, it does another thing not so well, which in the end results in a decent game with strong multiplayer and online play and a weak single-player experience.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is the best flight game available for the PlayStation 3, but that is a given – there literally is no competition at this point. The addition of motion controls is an interesting experiment, but the actual execution leaves a bit to be desired when you find yourself with a couple bogeys on your tail. Blazing Angels might drop your jaw a few times, but the chugging frame rate and sometimes monotonous campaign will likely just make casual players drop their controllers and look elsewhere for thrills.

Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII may be one of the longest titles for an Xbox 360 game at this current moment. It of course is based on the World War II era – as if you couldn’t tell from the title. I’m afraid not…

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII is one of those games that got promoted to the major league before it was ready. Despite its hefty premium pricetag, it plays and feels like a second-string budget title, albeit with a coat of shiny graphical gloss. Singleplayer is arguably the weakest aspect of the game, and for this reason if you don't have Xbox Live or aren't particularly fond of multiplayer gaming, then this really isn't the kind of title you want to cough up $119.95 for. Even if you are, it's probably safer to give this a rent, and cash in those frequent-flyer points on something more worthwhile.

Blazing Angels might just be something for fans of the genre alone; it's not a better game all round than Crimson Skies but offers quite a challenge for the single player, with several nicely playable multiplayer scenarios thrown in. There's simply nothing special or outstanding here and the mainly sub-Xbox graphics don't do it any favours for the casual observer. Some of the missions are frustrating, the truly memorable events few and far between, but there's more than enough here for World War II fans wanting something on the 360.

If you're like me, you enjoy a good flight combat game. There's just something so elegant, yet primal about a good dogfight. Circling your opponents, getting on their six, and cutting loose with your guns is one of the most satisfying experiences you can have in gaming. Whether it was in space with the Wing Commander series or even more recently with the alternate history of Crimson Skies, there have been some great games that captured that particular feeling. While I would love to tell you that Blazing Angels fully delivers that experience, it often misses more than it hits and will probably leave you unsatisfied. However, if you like to keep your Xbox Live dance card full, then there's definitely something here worth checking out.

Blazing Angels' attempt at storytelling is weak at best, with a brief pre-mission voiceover being about all you get. You do receive updates mid-mission, but the game feels rather disjointed, with missions coming one after another, but never really feeling like you got there based on events in the previous level. So, it's down to the action to carry the game, and while there's certainly lots of it, it's all rather samey.

As Blazing Angels: Heroes of World War II rolled over various real-life events like the escape from Dunkirk, the attack on Pearl Harbour, and the landing at Normandy, I couldn’t help but wonder when a developer will put you behind the bomber controls of the Enola Gay, with your sweaty trigger finger at the ready to bring a instantaneous death to thousands and painful lingering deaths to thousands more. Why isn’t that in a game? (I know why, it's rhetorical question.)

Most critics wrote off the motion-sensitive controls as a gimmick, but I found them to be a pleasant surprise. It might not make things easier, but it makes the game more immersive, so I adopted it as my default scheme. In addition to the addictive single-player campaign, a number of entertaining two-player split-screen modes are available, both cooperative and competitive. Blazing Angels does have a few technical flaws, including frequent audio glitches and unsightly "waves" that appear on the screen when things get too crazy. It won't blow you away, but based on its playability and unique controls, I'd say this was a worthwhile title.

WiiIGN
From what we’ve played of Blazing Angels previous to the Wii version, the franchise simply has room to grow across the board. Mix in quickly-ported flight control with PS2 graphics (plus a few stronger blur effects), an otherwise solid presentation of the World War II era, and you’ve got a game that had a ton of potential, but just didn’t execute well. The missions aren’t extremely varied in their design, as you’ll mostly be shooting and bombing the closest target or flying to on-screen waypoints, but solid control goes a long way, and it’s a double-edged sword when it doesn’t execute well. There’s definite potential for a Wii flight game, and Blazing Angels is a solid candidate, but it’ll take a true Wii sequel to make it work, rather than a fast fix to a previously-released game; especially when the starting point was passable at best on other consoles.

Although Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII has appeared on multiple formats, this is the first time Gamestyle has taken to the skies with UbiSoft's historical dogfighter. Such titles have now become the exception, with few developers taking flight unless its part of a sandbox approach. In theory the added power of the current generation and potential of online play should warrant more candidates, but actually pulling off an enjoyable and varied flight experience is easier said than done, as playing through Blazing Angels highlights.

Overall the game is a huge let down. The graphics are great in parts, but overall it just looks too dated. The game itself is unbearably short and what should be an action packed game, where everything is non-stop and only instincts win the game, it’s a real shame to see that it has the pace of a common garden snail. The games campaign mode is also made unbearable by the worst script ever written. I think that Ubisoft only had profit in mind when making this game and they have ruined what could have been an absolutely awesome flight simulator. Shame on you Ubisoft, shame on you!!!!

A great concept, Blazing Angels fails to execute in almost all key areas. The A.I. in the game, both friendly and enemy, is just downright stupid, offering little challenge and yet still manages to be quite frustrating. It looks like a last-gen game and the fun factor is slim to none and will have worn off after about half an hour. All in all, it was mediocre as a launch title and now, almost two years later, it should be avoided like the plague.

Piling on an unfortunate number of bugs and glitches, Blazing Angels on the Wii is undoubtedly the most disappointing version of this game to date. The lack of online multiplayer also detracts from the replayability. It's really a shame, because it was so close to being the best version.
