Blokus was released on the iPhone and iPod Touch earlier this year, but the iPad-only HD version of the game feels much better thanks to the increased screen acreage. Having never played the board game version, I appreciated the tutorial levels built into the game's single-player tournament mode. I also appreciated the ability to listen to my own music while playing the game, because the elevator tunes Gameloft cooked up for this game are somewhat horrendous. Board games have proven to be the iPad's forte, and Blokus is no exception.

Predictably, it's a breeze to play on Move. The drag-and-drop premise lends itself particularly well to the new controller. But even on a boring old DualShock, this is among the most intense, competitive, and devilishly strategic puzzle games I've ever come across, and it's as cheap as (posh) chips. Buy it immediately.
If you really like playing Blokus and already own it on your iPhone, I see no reason to pay the additional $4.99 to migrate it to your iPad. If you’ve never played the game at all, try out the iPhone free lite version to see how you feel about the control mechanics. This is one game where it pays to play first.
