My final take on the game goes like this…If you are short on cash or weary about games that may or may not be totally kick ass, then by all means go rent it. If you like killing Nazi's, sucking their blood, and breaking stuff, then please do yourself a favor and go buy this game. I know for a fact that it has dropped in price on the EB site to $29.99 so there is no reason you shouldn't have it already. I am not sure exactly how long the game is, but I have been playing for at least 4 hours and since I reload a game when I die, that doesn't include the countless areas I have had to play over and over because I got my ass kicked. P.S. Hot vampire chicks rule.

BloodRayne’s an incredibly violent (yet amazingly fun) game that pits you as a female half-vampire against the Nazi regime in the late 1930s. There’s a lot to admire about BloodRayne, and, although the initial missions bite, overall the game hardly sucks. As the ber-sexy foul-mouthed title frulein, you spend much of your time destroying enemies or feeding off them to stay alive. Armed with twin swords, weapon expertise, and responsive controls, you’ll carve a bloody path through a variety of lengthy missions, most of which require assassination or destruction.

Badder than Blade and buffer than Buffy, BloodRayne is a vampire romp on an adrenaline shot, a hyperkinetic action/adventure that will whip bloodsucking freaks into a crimson frenzy.

There's so much that I have to say about this game that I honestly didn't know when to quit! I urge every gamer to go out and buy/rent this game as soon as possible. It is so incredibly entertaining that you will definitely not want to put it down. You're guaranteed to love BloodRayne if you like Onimusha, Devil May Cry and/or Max Payne. But even if you don't like those games, I still recommend that you play this BloodRayne. It is the perfect example of what a third-person action game should be.

PlayStation 2Play.tm
It is fast-paced, action-packed, appealing to the eye, original and incredibly gorey. What more could a person want from a game? The settings of the game are well chosen and form a good base for the game play that is both varied and playable. The ability to replenish your health by sucking the blood of others is particularly wonderful (okay, now I'm concerned - Ed). The ambiance of Rayne when she goes into a Bloodrage is incredible with a foggy red tint to the screen, and some side slashing moves. This game may not be for everyone but it was definitely a pleasant surprise and if you like that then you'll enjoy this.

BloodRayne is a fun diversion for those looking for one. The graphics and gameplay, especially the cool powers and abilities sported by Rayne make it an above average action title. If a sequel comes out, I’ll buy it.

The man in the light gray uniform is just doing his rounds as usual in the dank basement of some remote building he was forced to guard. He has no idea what goes on in this place but he knows it’s for the benefit of the Fatherland. Suddenly, almost too swiftly for him to see it, a pale figure embraces him. He struggles madly in the arms of this beautiful pale woman as her sharp teeth pierce the soft skin of his neck and drain him of his blood. Her name is BloodRayne, half human and half vampire.

BloodRayne is one of those games that you just have to decide about for yourself. While the action and graphics are cool to look at and play through, a poor excuse for a story and a general lack of depth to most of the game could turn off some gamers.

BloodRayne is a really fun game to play. The controls are really smooth, the pace of the game is nice, and all of her moves are fun to watch. Even though it borrows elements from other established games, they all fit nicely into her world. The game falls short because it doesn't have anything to offer players going through the game once more. Once players beat the game that is all they will want to play of it. For those hours that they do play it they will enjoy all of its gruesome action.

Add one part sexy vixen, one half vampire, five parts whoop-ass, and mix. For flavor, throw in some mutated people, freaky bugs, and some nazis and you’ll wind up with BloodRayne, Majesco and Terminal Reality's new action-packed third-person shooter. This is a must-play game that gives the modern gamer a new chance to stomp on the third Reich. If you are a vampire fan to any degree, you will love the story and style of Bloodrayne.

BloodRayne reminds me of an obscure PlayStation title called Rising Zan. While the gameplay is similar (use guns and blades to explore 3D environments), and the characters are oddly familiar (he was half-samurai, half-cowboy and she is half-vampire, half-human), the common thread that binds them is that they both are entertaining games that are technologically hindered.

BloodRayne brings its violent tale of a one-woman army to the GameCube. Blending elements of Max Payne, Castle Wolfenstein, and the most vile World War II exploitation movies, BloodRayne’s one of the sickest and most disturbing adventures you’re likely to find. It’s also very fun to play in a guilty sort of way once you get past the weak opening levels and discover you can stomach its content.

The amazingly surprising game that places you as a female vampire killing Nazis Gameplay There's just something ultimately cool about a female damphir slicing her way through legions of Nazi soldiers. Terminal Reality understood this truth and has developed "Bloodrayne", the prequel to the fan favorite "Nocturne". The story of the game begins with the title character being recruited by the Brimstone Society, a group founded to combat supernatural threats to humanity. Players control the agile half-vampire through three missions, the first of which takes place in the Louisiana bayou where creatures have been mutating the population. The other two, set in Argentina and Germany, pit Agent Bloodrayne against Nazis who themselves are in search of magical and spiritual relics.

It is very well known that one needs to be either original or rebel if he or she wants to be noticed and appreciated. Producers chose the second way and didn't fail. It's true I lack also Oni's combos but this doesn't make it a bad game. What takes it down is a poor and unexploited story, the lack of stimulating puzzles and the repeatability feeling of your actions especially in the beginning of act 3 when you get the new list. Fortunately, the atmosphere created is exceptional with alternating tensed or relaxed moments to keep your interest alive. Locations are very well chosen and the levels are nor too linear neither too complex, being extremely well balanced from this point of view.

BloodRayne is definitely a game that fans of the action genre would enjoy, especially those with an appreciation of the occult. With a finely tuned mix of stylish action and gruesome horror, BloodRayne is slick and sexy, and fun to boot. However, for many this game may be a bit over the top in terms of mature content. Not only is there a gratuitous amount of violence in BloodRayne, there is also a hint of perversity that may turn some people off. In the end, the game may employ a lot of the same aspects that other vampire action games have used before, but there is one rather large distinction between BloodRayne and titles like Dark Angel (older PS2 title not based on TV series) and Blade II; BloodRayne doesn't suck.

This is not a bad game. But don't confuse it for a 3D adventure. So long as gamers go in knowing that -- expecting fights and gore versus puzzle solving and a deep, engaging quest of some sort -- they should come away happy in spite of its quick play through and lack of originality. Worth a rental at the very least.

BloodRayne is not going to change the videogame industry, It has its problems -- some technical shortcomings here and there, some camera oversights and the occasional level layout difficulty, but I have to admit that I enjoyed playing through the 3D action title; that it delivered a fun little ride while it lasted.

The graphics didn’t bowl me over. The gameplay is slightly above average. So why do I think BloodRayne reigns? It makes me feel dirty for all the right reasons. A smokin’ main character, gory fighting, and seductive bloodsucking (listen to the moans!) keep things interesting in a genre so full of mediocrity. I mean, a sexy goth vampire chick shooting and slicing skeleton spiders and Nazis in the 1930s? You gotta love that!

BloodRayne is a game that certainly doesn’t break any new ground, or indeed have any particular originality. However, it does manage to take different elements from a wide variety of established game types, and meld them into a cohesive whole and come up with a very solid third person action game. Make no mistake – this game is all about gimmicks, gore, and more gore. But if you are able to get past the gimmicks it is also very entertaining, has a great storyline and is very well presented. Well worth a purchase if you like your games gory or have a particular liking for all things vampiric.

Overall, BloodRayne is a strong game with a few flaws. The combat can be boring unless you take it upon yourself to mix it up, and while that can be done easily enough, you never really have to put any of Rayne's cool abilities to work, which is a bit disappointing in itself. Some of the level design is pretty good, while some of it is merely okay. The graphics and sound are pretty solid though. I admit I had quite a bit of fun with BloodRayne, and while the game certainly isn't perfect, it's certainly above-average. Don't hesitate to check it out if you're interested.

My final thoughts with Bloodrayne are that it’s a fun and engaging action game with piles of bodies and dismembered corpses. The only criticism I have against it is the inclusion of a few levels where you’re required to revisit those skills that made you famous in Half Life. Yes, I’m speaking about the dreaded ‘Alien’ jumpy world. There’s one section of the game that’s devoted to finding a certain artefact and it seems to have been hidden in a massive sprawling complex of lunatic jumps and leaps. Now Rayne has supernatural powers and can jump really high, but there’s nothing more frustrating than having to climb up to the top again when you miss the last jump. This would have worked for a game that allowed you to save when and where you wanted, but Bloodrayne only saves properly between levels.

Bloodrayne is a hard game to talk about in a review. I would say that the gameplay is where the title really shines. Unfortunately, the game has very low replay value - expect to beat the game in close to 15-20 hours. That's why it's a bit difficult to recommend this game for purchase.

PlayStation 2IGN
From Majesco and developer Terminal Reality comes BloodRayne, an action-packed 3D adventure starring a life-sucking heroine of the same name who isn't afraid to obliterate just about anything and everything in sight. It's a game that clings to and plays on just about every cliche in the videogame universe, from extremely over-the-top violence to undead and Nazi enemies, silly one-liners, and so much more. Often times publishers hide sub par products behind gimmicks like these, but in BloodRayne's case there is an enjoyable experience to be found underneath all of the body limbs and pools of blood.

It's rayning men. Hallelujah!

GameCubeGamersMark
BloodRayne is one fun and bloody game, and a decent addition to the GameCube’s ever growing Mature rated game library. But the game disappoints a bit in terms of length and is hindered by camera problems. I do not suggest a purchase of this title but the game is an ideal rental.

The Good - Easy to learn controls - Fast paced gameplay - Early on in the game, if you look hard enough you can find a Nazi storage box that contains the Ark of the Covenant (Raiders of The Lost Ark anyone?)

The Bad: - Too linear for its own good - Doesn’t last long enough - Camera is somewhat frustrating

As action games go BloodRayne is a good one. There isn't anything here that's spectacular but it's enjoyable nevertheless. If you enjoyed titles such as Blood Omen II then you will probably also enjoy BloodRayne. In fact with its superior control system BloodRayne is probably the better of the two titles and it's certainly the gorier of the two.

BloodRayne is a good third-person action game that's pretty straightforward but has a few nice twists. It's fairly long, but it's also fairly repetitive, and Agent Rayne is so powerful that you'll only feel in danger during some of the boss fights scattered through the game. BloodRayne is visually impressive, and some of the gameplay mechanics are cool, but the nature of the levels means you won't be getting much replay value out of this one, which makes BloodRayne ideally suited for rental.

BloodRayne, a third-person action game featuring a red-haired, scantily clad female vampire as the main character, may seem like just another generic action game with a provocative box. But there's a great deal more to the game than you might think. Even if you do give it a chance, it's possible to miss all that's good about BloodRayne since the first hour or so of gameplay is actually pretty bland--most of the really interesting stuff doesn't show up until later in the game. The slow start can make BloodRayne a tough game to stick with, but those who do will most likely find BloodRayne to be a surprisingly fun action game for the GameCube.

It's just another average third-person hack n' slasher, augmented with some cool blood-sucking animations and a ton of gore. If you love this kind of thing, it might be worth your $50, but I couldn't get over the amateurish production values, camera bugs, and shallow combat control. It's not a horrible way to kill a few hours, but I think your time is more valuable than this.

Well, its okay, but could of been much better. It has an excellent premise and LOTS of swear words, but they still aren't enough to raise this basic vampire romp to the heights it could so easily of achieved considering the nearly limitless potential the developers had with the concept.

WindowsActionTrip
In summary, great action, smooth controls and a very good 3D engine can only do so much for a game. Ultimately, you have to have a decent story in there and some good voice acting to make the entire thing believable and immersing. Without these crucial components an action adventure game can never truly become great. BloodRayne is a decent action-adventure that should provide players with some fun moments, albeit without any background or meaning to it. I had fun with it, but not as much fun as I could've had if the story and voice acting were even half-decent.

I can smell their fear. Even though the group of Wermacht soldiers behind the door are armed to their teeth with machineguns and grenades, they know that they do not stand a chance against me. I let my tongue caress my sharp teeth, and I can already taste their warm, delicious blood. I smash the door open and with my super-human speed and my ultra-sharp blades I cut the head of the first soldier, before they even realise that I’ve attacked. The next soldier loses his arm to my blades as he tries to fire his machinegun. Then I take the prize: I jump onto the officer, sink my teeth in his neck and milk him dry of blood. They met their fate in me. In BloodRayne.

Despite the cool premise, BloodRayne never manages to quite fulfill its potential. It's not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination and is definitely worth a look if you can find it at a reduced price. There is a sequel being made now. If it manages to fix the problems of the first game we could well have an action classic on a level with Max Payne on our hands.

Bleh. Bloodrayne is extremely gory and has many flying body parts. It also involves a battle against a former Satan, and Bloodrayne herself is half vampire. There is a lot of blood sucking in this game. And a lot of cussing. Rayne herself is the main perpetrator, sayin' every word in the book at times. This game is not for kids. Rayne and her mentor Mynce both wear revealing clothing, and Rayne often moves in a suggestive manner during cutscenes. Rayne also tends to use her mdiddle finger alot. Overall, Bloodrayne is an fun, if short lived action game, with many-a christian downfalls.

A solid title, and you can easily complete it in a dedicated 5-day rental, which is what I would recommend. I came away with a very “been there, done that” feeling after completion, and there are several titles which execute this general style more effectively.

XboxThe Next Level
Really this game simply needed some more time to tune and polish, and then it could have been much more solid. As it stands it was good fun slaughtering Nazis, but not great enough that I feel pressed to return too quickly after beating it. I liked the design and their attempt at mission variety was actually good, unlike most action games. Too many try their hand at not making every mission the same thing but ultimately just end up creating something horrible, boring, or plain out frustrating. BloodRayne kept every mission goal-oriented enough to make me feel like I was actually progressing, but never let up on the pure action in doing so. I am simply thankful they did not want to try any protect or sneaking missions, I hate those like the plague in games where one should be doing nothing but blowing things up. At least the developers realized that when making this, and certainly made it an enjoyable trip.

There just isn't anything here that causes BloodRayne to rise above the crop of third-person action adventure games currently competing for space on your hard drive. While the blending of sex and over-the-top violence is initially intriguing for those who like their games on the spicy side, annoyances like the complete absence of originality and depth and the frustrating control system mean that there isn't much here to hold anyone's interest for long.

MacintoshInside Mac Games (IMG)
But overall the whole game is really too derivative. Rayne can use guns (hardly original), but most of the time she's just hacking bodies to pieces with knives, and I found that this got very repetitive and tedious. I enjoyed Return to Castle Wolfenstein for its variety and strategy (plenty of sniping from a distance and avoiding detection) and Tomb Raider for its exploration aspects and puzzles, but BloodRayne is just slash, slash, slash from start to finish.
40
WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW)
BloodRayne was originally a console game, and its roots show. You can only save at the beginning of a level, which is an obvious attempt to add longevity to an otherwise short game. And it is short, which unfortunately means that the terrible opening is a good portion of the game. If you can get past the unresponsive controls and don't mind the overall tasteless but campless tone, BloodRayne still offers only a few hours of moderately entertaining carnage.
40
MacintoshMac Addict
BloodRayne is entertaining, but once you've been wowed by BloodRayne herself, the game's story line isn't creative enough to capture true adventurers, and its combat isn't inspired enough to satiate die-hard shooters. It's a solid hybrid—but not much more than that.

With a ho-hum premise of tired cliches and unremarkable gameplay built on buggy, leaden game programming, it's hard to recommend Bloodrayne on any point whatsoever. There are certainly a few fun ideas and the fratboy-fantasy eroticism may appeal to some extremely bored gamers, but even Bloodrayne's greatest accomplishments are effortlessly bested by several other contemporary games. It's disappointing to see Aspyr - a company which has brought us several of the greatest Mac games ever made - publishing a game which falls so far short of their usual standards. With many more games on the horizon for Aspyr in 2003, let's hope Bloodrayne proves to be the exception, not the rule.

You know, it's a sad state of affairs when a plot like that described above can be called overdone. If it was done in parody, this game could work. If Blood Rayne wasn't taking itself so seriously—or at least gave some indication it's in on the joke that it is—it could have been quite fun. As it stands, it seems like nothing more than a poor attempt to launch the next Lara Croft or Cate Archer.

What grates me the most though is not the immaturity of the developers because, after all, they’re just trying to make a buck by appealing to the lowest common denominator. No, the bigger whores are the professional reviewers who are more than willing to overlook the gratuitous violence and rampant sexism that is prevalent in too many of today’s games as long as they have an enjoyable gaming experience and don’t have to struggle with the controls. But by doing so, they continue to perpetuate the stereotype that most gamers are drooling, addle-brained teenagers content to luxuriate in a sea of sex and violence.

Bloodrayne's problems go deeper than its fit and finish. The game play is thoroughly derivative of every third-person shooter that's come along in recent years. If you've played Tomb Raider, or any of a hundred other similar games, you've pretty much done everything you can do in Bloodrayne -- straight down to a slow-motion mode (called Blood Rage) similar to that of Max Payne and Jedi Knight II. The game designers' careful attention to jiggling breasts and the moaning sounds of Rayne feeding on her victims is lascivious, gratuitous, and insulting. This game has an ESRB rating of M, for Mature. Unfortunately, the board hasn't yet come up with an I rating, for Immature. This game deserves it.
