We've established that Bloody Roar has excellent visual and sound effects but it's the gameplay that usually the lets most fighting games down. Not so in this case. This title plays as good as it looks and belongs up there with the more prestigious beat-em-ups available on Playstation format. Furthermore, the beast morph idea allows this game to stand firmly on it's own ground without being tagged a Soul Blade or Tekken clone.

This is absolutely top notch beat'em-up. The simple two button system works a treat and the animal transformations are great fun. Another new slant on the fighting genre and the hugely playable one.
Overall, this game is a tight, playable fighter that ranks in the very upper tier of brawlers on any system, and after playing this to death, my favorite N64 fighter, Fighter's Destiny, pales in comparison.
If you are a die-hard fighter fan and must own every fighting game made, you should be fairly satisfied with this game. For the casual fighting fan like myself, you will find the game entertaining but nothing revolutionary. Sure, the morphing was a great idea and worked really well, but it just did not change the fact that it was a pretty standard fighting game at heart.
Bloody Roar is one of the more original and exciting fighting games to come along this year. While it probably won't compete with the likes of Tekken 3, it's still a solidly fun fighter with an original take on the genre.

The one-on-one battles take place in fenced-in arenas, and it's even possible to knock your opponent through a wall (nice!). Unfortunately, the characters are not well balanced, and the guy who becomes a lion has his way with most of the others. Bloody Roar also includes a ton of options and Easter Eggs which add replay value.
Though there may be a few bright spots, the overall product is fairly weak and does not come recommended.
