TurboGrafx-16Retro Game Reviews (Dec 11, 2014)
Bloody Wolf is the best run and gun game I've ever played and it's interesting that I found it on a console that's primarily known for shoot-em-ups. Give it a go if you're looking for something different on the T-16 - it's a real hidden gem.

Bloody Wolf should be a classic. It probably would be if it weren’t on an unpopular console. If you download it on a Wii, Bloody Wolf will pay you back ten times the five bucks you paid for the privilege of downloading it. If you own a TurboGrafx-16, Bloody Wolf is just a great way to let off steam.

Poor graphics and sound belie a challenge and highly addictive combat game which keeps you engrossed for hours at a time. Superb!

Wer also mal wieder den Freizeit-Rambo raushängen lassen will, wird hier bestens bedient.
TurboGrafx-16Defunct Games (Dec 15, 2007)
Graphically I always thought things were a little overly detailed in this game. I don't mean the cool effect of the blood pooling from the enemy when you shoot them but the use of texture and shading. Some of the characters and backgrounds look too busy. The game has good graphics throughout especially giant tanks, helicopters, and submarine bosses you will encounter. Take heed, the slow down is incredible during points of the game. It reminds you of the limitations of the hardware but it definitely hurts when it happens. Hurts the game play, hurts my rating, and hurts my soul.
TurboGrafx-16The Video Game Critic (Mar 11, 2003)
The sound effects are weak. When a soldier is shot, blood appears on his chest, but he doesn't make a sound. A confirmation scream or at least a grunt would have been nice. There's some minor slow-down, but it's mainly towards the end of the game and by that time it's actually somewhat helpful. And where's the freakin' two-player mode? Oh well, it's not perfect but Bloody Wolf does enough right to earn a solid recommendation.

While the action is puddle-shallow, it's these little touches that lift it above its peers. Although they don't change the gameplay drastically, the fact that you can wander in and out of structures, or jump over fences on a bike, make it feel less repetitive than most side-scrollers of this vintage. It's also a lot more forgiving than the usual retro blasters, with a generous health bar and a nicely balanced difficulty curve. Fans of daft macho military shooters should definitely give this a go.
TurboGrafx-16TurboPlay (Aug, 1990)
Unfortunately, there is not much playability to the game. It can be difficult to control your character and shoot the enemies that come toward you at an angle, and there are a few times when the game will bog down because of the number of enemies on the screen. Despite the downfalls, it is still fun with a capital F. Although it may have a familiar theme, there are enough twists in the plot to make Bloody Wolf unique. NEC's first Rambo-style game is highly recommended. [rank in issue #5]

An excellent shooter for the Turbo. Player control is good, the action is constant and is guaranteed to push players to their limits. The graphics are on the gory side, although toned down from the original version. Not easy, but good variety in goals.

TurboGrafx-16The Games Machine (UK) (Jan, 1990)
Bloody Wolf is an easily accessible bullet-spraying jaunt. Unadulterated bloody (of course) violence is great fun, leaping around and revving bikes, trusty gun always at hand, and is entertaining for a while.
TurboGrafx-16ASM (Aktueller Software Markt) (Oct, 1989)
TurboGrafx-16Dragon (Dec, 1990)
Although this game is hardly original and is hardly one of the best NEC games we've played, there is plenty of action to keep any warmonger happy for some time.
WiiNintendo Life (Jun 19, 2007)
The downsides are no two-player option unlike the arcade original and nasty slowdown when the action gets too frantic on-screen. None of this really deters too much from an otherwise excellent game, NEC did an excellent job with the port adding an extra level and much more dialogue to the game (the funny translation alone makes this game worth buying!) Players may find this game quite difficult in places but it is worth preserving with. Whilst this game is far from a classic it stands as one of the better games on the TurboGrafx and offers an excellent challenge if you can just resist using too many of the continues provided.

Chances are you'd rather leave this Ranger alone . . . except if you have an advanced sense of humour!.
WiiIGN (Jun 19, 2007)
Contra III: The Alien Wars and Gunstar Heroes both took up early residence on the Virtual Console, all but rendering other genre challengers from the same era to be dead on arrival. The stronger recommendation remains for those two established titles, but if you're a lone run and gun fan looking for a game you missed out on years ago, Bloody Wolf may be worth some consideration. Just don't expect any bells, whistles, or unique gameplay ideas.
ArcadeAll Game Guide (1998)
Bloody Wolf is simply a poorly made, with little point in playing, unless you like throwing quarters away, with no enjoyment in return.
