This is a real step up from the one-player mode of Bomberman 64, although it would have been nice to have the four-player mode, as well.Young players will get the most out of this game.

In the end, what Hudson Soft has come up with this time is truly a mixed blessing. If you can get past the fact that Bomberman Hero is an above average platform game and nothing else, you'll probably have a pretty good time. It's good looking, easy to play, and perversely satisfying. Who doesn't get a kick out of blowing up everything in sight? Add to that the fact that Bomberman just looks so cool in 3D, and you might have a winner. However, if you're the kind of gamer who wants a little meat with his potatoes, you might want to pass. Super Mario this is not. Maybe Hudson Soft should slow down a little. With Bomberman Hero, it was on to a good thing, but you just can't shake the feeling that given a little more time, Hudson Soft could have taken something good and turned it into something great. Maybe next time.

Bomberman Hero is a big departure from the Bomberman series norm, with no multiplayer mode and a single-player adventure that's more of a platformer than an action game. If you're not a fan of the other games in the series, then the gameplay change here might interest you, but otherwise, you'll simply find a moderately fun adventure bogged down by many slow sections.

Dommage.
I wouldn’t recommend it overall—with virtually no replay value, woozy controls, repetitive game play, uninspired story, choppy graphics and models, and bosses easier than Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, the only real positive thing about this game is the length if you’re going for a perfect game. Why, I don’t know. If you’re a fan of 3D platformers, you can find enjoyment out of it in some shape or form. Just don’t expect an epic adventure to write home about.
Nintendo 64All Game Guide
Bomberman Hero emerges as a surprisingly fun game -- that is, if you can get over the shock of the lack of a multiplayer mode. The straightforward nature of the game design means kids probably will get the most enjoyment. For some reason, however, it also made me think back to the fun and gameplay of 8-bit Nintendo games. Bomberman Hero is something you'll definitely want to check out if you're into platform games. Alas, there is no multiplayer mode, which means its scores are going to have to be docked.

How do you make a Bomberman game without any multiplayer functionality? That's like making a Madden NFL game without a football. The action elements in Bomberman Hero aren't bad, but they never rise above the generic 1990s mascot game. Taking out the one thing that everybody likes about Bomberman is hard to swallow, as is the ten dollar asking price. There are far better Bomberman games on the Virtual Console, including a few for cheaper. I would skip this misguided platformer entirely ... along with Pac-Man World (just for good measure).

Nintendo 64Game Revolution
All in all, Bomberman Hero is a vast disappointment. The N64 has come out with some great platform games recently, like Banjo-Kazooie, that make Bomberman Hero look like garbage. If you always loved Bomberman and have $60 to spend, don't buy this game. Instead, buy a Saturn (they're real dirt cheap now), a multi-tap, and a copy of Saturn Bomberman. You could even go buy Bomberman 64. But whatever you do, just don't buy this game.
