The graphics are slightly more detailed and interesting than the original game, and there are also a number of hidden bonus stages. Bonk's Revenge lets you select between three skill levels, and three continues are provided. I can't really find anything to criticize about Bonk's Revenge. The gameplay is fantastic and there are plenty of surprises to keep the action fresh.

If you liked the original you will like this. It really is more of the same but improved. The levels are slightly harder and longer. The gameplay is just as much fun and the controls feel a bit smoother in this update. There is a third Bonk game to come on the TurboGrafx. We can't help thinking the series reached its peak with this game however. They are all classics but this one seems to strike the balance perfectly.

The gameplay is generally better than it was in the last game. Bonk can turn around easier than he did before, and his jumps come off a lot smoother. But his spin jump move has lost a lot of its speed and range. It’s still useful, but you can no longer use it as a substitute for flying. The control of his spin jump isn’t as tight as it originally was, and fans of the first game will quickly learn that it isn’t the all-purpose way to fight when in doubt about what to do. They will also learn that Bonk doesn’t quite go fast enough now to deflect every shot that flies at him. He’ll be hit and knocked out of the spin jump fairly frequently. Bonk’s Revenge is a game which falls on my must-emulate-or-download list. It’s a little gem from the Silver Era just begging to be dug up.

Bonk’s Revenge encompasses everything needed to make it a successful sequel and it improves on the original’s graphics and level design while leaving its fantastic gameplay intact. While Bonk’s Revenge may only take you a few hours to complete, it happens to be an incredibly fun filled few hours.

Perhaps a traditional 2D platformer at heart, Bonk sets itself apart from the Marios and Sonics out there by making players laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, while still employing rewarding gameplay in exotic locales. If you were a fan of the original, then you'll definitely find a lot of fun to be had here. If you haven't played Bonk's Adventure, but are looking for a fun platformer with a twist, the game is well worth the 600 points.

On the other hand, Bonk is an endearing little thug, using his bald pate to, well, bonk enemies off the screen, gobbling up shanks of meat that turn him into a vicious — but always cute — proto-Neanderthal. Overall, Bonk's Revenge is nothing evoltionary, but if you're a softy for a tiny caveman with a mission, you could do a whole lot worse.

Bonk at his best! Take one look at the improved graphics, and you'll love it! The famous "Bonk-spin" isn't as smooth, but the levels are incredible! This astounding achievement follows up the original with class and dignity, sporting cool tunes and smooth gameplay.

Now that Bonk's Revenge is available alongside Bonk's Adventure in the TurboGrafx-16 section of the Wii's Virtual Console shopping channel, people are bound to ask if Bonk's Revenge is better than its predecessor, especially those who spent 600 points ($6) on Bonk's Adventure and found it to be nothing special. In most regards, yes, it is. Once again, you have to guide the titular cavedude through a number of 2D platforming stages and use his thick forehead to bash whatever enemies and obstacles get in the way. However, this second game is much more extravagant than the first one was. Bonk has a couple of new abilities, enemies are more plentiful, the stages are larger and more inspired than those in the first game, and the graphics and audio better represent what the TurboGrafx-16 hardware is capable of.
