With a gaming landscape populated by so many sequels and other examples of unoriginality it would be easy to see the praise of Braid as coming from the desire to play something different, and not as a result of the game's merits, however, independent of the games that have come before it, Braid is simply a marvel. Beautifully crafted and wonderfully realized, it is a shining example of the intersection between art and technology, love and loss, desire and despondence. It is, in one word, beautiful.
Indispensable.

If you haven't played it yet due to its inaccessibility to PS3 owners then it's time to bite. Braid's release on PSN takes us back a year where nothing has changed; it's still brilliant and gamers should give it a shot.
When it came out on the Xbox 360, Braid was one of the best downloadable games on the console. Little has changed. It's an experience every gamer should enjoy, and is a game cut from the same cloth as BioShock and Portal, erasing videogame norms and reimagining the way we look at the medium. It does things with gaming that are usually reserved for novels and films, while also adding elements that would be impossible in any other form. It’s is a game that makes you think about your own life as much as it does about gaming. The level design is inspired and expertly crafted in a way that would make Shigeru Miyamoto blush, the pacing brilliant, and the gameplay as classic as it is progressive. When I reviewed Super Mario Galaxy I called it a bookend of the platformer; a signal of the death of a genre, taking it as far as it could go and ending it. Braid took it a few feet farther, while rewinding to it’s beginning and starting it anew.
Xbox 360The Review Busters
It should be noted that while most games on Xbox Live cost 800 ms points. Braid cost’s 1200 (15 bucks). And before you ask, yes it is very much worth the extra cost. It is on the shorter end, but there is no filler and you are left feeling satisfied. If you like classic platforming games, or heck if you like games at all (and you own a Xbox 360) go buy this game NOW!
WindowsAdventure Classic Gaming
Braid is a very clever puzzle platformer, with a number of ingenious puzzles that challenge you to approach a problem in an unusual way because of the unique way the game relates to time. It is a short game, but with enough variety that each level serves to illustrate a different concept or challenge.
The gorgeous paintings, haunting music, unique story, and even humor (children of the '80s will appreciate all the Super Mario Bros. references) make Braid more than just a video game. It's a work of art.
Xbox 360Good Game
This guy knows how to make a game – and it’s exactly the type of game digital distribution should be bringing to the masses. Good ideas, lovingly executed, visuals done by a webcomic artist, music sourced from a website that allows you to pay your own price for music, and all these artists will get more attention BECAUSE of the game. Every little bit of this is independent, and what’s not to love? It’s our first indie game to get a 10, well done.
Xbox 360The A.V. Club
Your journey isn't about the girl, it's about your understanding—and misunderstanding—of yourself. This isn't a game about time, it's about memories, and how they can be repeated and eventually rewritten. And understanding this isn't meant to make you feel like a hero, so much as a liar.
Braid is a remarkable achievement - a strikingly original game with beautiful production values and polish that was developed on a small budget by seemingly just one designer/developer, two artists and some licensed music. It is worth every cent that it sells for on the XBLA, and there really isn’t anything like it on the Xbox 360, or any other console for that matter.
Xbox 360Gaming Age
Braid is definitely worth picking up from the XBLA library, and has a lot going for it that should appeal to just about every gaming enthusiast out there. The nice little nods to the history of the genre will appeal to long-standing fans, and the updated visuals and music should definitely bring in the younger crowd. However, both sides will find a lot to love with the inventive puzzles and various ways of overcoming them, and those of you who like to dig a bit deeper into the story will be rewarded as well.
Xbox 360Gamer Hate
It’s simply an exquisitely well thought out and executed game. If you have any interest in game design, you must play this game.
Xbox 360Gaming Nexus
Braid is an absolute masterpiece, from beginning to end. It's the kind of game that will stick with you long after you've completed it. It's the kind of game that you'll feel the need to tell all your friends about. It's the kind of game we'll still be talking about ten years from now. If you don't already own Braid, then either you hate fun or simply haven't discovered this charming (and beautiful) platformer/puzzler!
Xbox 360Xbox World 360
That's Braid - amazing ideas, achievement, logic, pride, beauty, and a game so good it makes every other Xbox World five-star game look a little silly. In a world without Mario and Valve and the Bethesda hit factory Braid is indeed the best game ever made; in this world, it's among the best games of the generation, and is unquestionably and immediately the best game ever to have been released on Xbox Live Arcade.
Like Portal, Braid's short length can be disregarded in the face of its unique approach to storytelling and expansive ideas; it needn't be played through multiple times, but those looking for cognitive stimulation must experience it at least once. Excellent but intellectually limited as a puzzle-platformer, Braid is made truly divine with emotional depth and a bittersweet humanity -- a monumentally relevant game that speaks highly of its creators and their potential audience's tolerance for new ideas. To say nothing of an absolutely brilliant, emotionally devastating "ending" that proves that time isn't really that malleable after all.
Xbox 360Eurogamer.net (UK)
Braid is beautiful, entertaining and inspiring. It stretches both intellect and emotion, and these elements dovetail beautifully rather than chaffing against each other. Still wondering if games can be art? Here's your answer.
One of the most innovative games in years, of the highest quality and unique nature, Braid is a game you can’t miss. Already a must have for PC and Xbox 360 users, Braid deserves a space on your Playstation 3 hard drive.
Xbox 360Defunct Games
In the end this product is all about the puzzles. If you absolutely hate solving puzzles, don't care about a moving story and would rather just shoot Nazis in another World War II-themed first-person shooter, then Braid is probably not the game for you. However, if you're like me and like to try out new things then you will be treated to one of the best games of all time. Scratch that, Braid is easily one of the best games I have ever played. It's near perfect, which is exactly why you should stop reading this review and purchase some Microsoft Points. $15 may sound like a lot of money for an Xbox Live Arcade game, but I guarantee that this game will change how you feel about Microsoft's download service.
Oui, il faut sauver une princesse... Non !

Braid can be finished in just a few hours, which might make the $15 price tag seem a bit high. But do not let a few extra dollars deter you from an exemplary experience that can rival many full-price, retail games. Braid is worth every penny. The captivating ending sequence, which makes use of your rewind ability in a jaw-dropping new way, provides the exclamation point on this remarkable game, but the adventure is consistently engaging throughout the entire ride. The clever puzzles alone are enough to make this an adventure worth taking. Braid's deep and mesmerizing tale is evergreen: it is outside of and beyond time. It will never get old.
Xbox 360Middle East Gamers (MEgamers)
Braid is a game that many will struggle to understand, slowly everyone that invests enough time into it will enjoy every minute he or she have put into the game. It has unique printed all over it from the start to finish. Every time you face an “impossible” puzzle, keep trying until you solve it and see how good it feels. Now this is gaming at its best.
It is impossible to ignore Braid's price point. At 1,200 Microsoft points ($15), it is one of the most expensive games for the Xbox Live Arcade service. But do not let a few extra dollars deter you from an exemplary experience that can rival many full-price, retail games. Braid is worth every penny. Braid is the most gorgeous slice of chocolate cake you can possible imagine wrapped in a silk cloth and tied with a pink ribbon. It's a paradoxical experience of simplistic charm and over-bearing sensory and logical complexity. No one in the gaming world should miss out on playing this game, to do so would be a tragedy.
Braid is a wonderful game. It costs a little more than your average XBLA title, true, and you’ll probably beat it in 4-5 hours or so, but those 4-5 hours will be extremely well-spent. Braid is beautiful, inventive, surreal, and mixes some of the best platforming puzzles with a stunning mix of visuals and haunting narrative elements. I can almost guarantee that Braid is going to join the list of titles on the “pro” side of the “games are art” debate. We would be fortunate to see more games like this come to XBLA, so do the world a favor and give Braid a whirl. You will feel no desire to hold down X and rewind your life once you’re done.
Xbox 360Cheat Code Central
A point of contention about Braid's release on Xbox LIVE Arcade is the price. Sitting at 1,200 Microsoft Points, it's one of the most expensive offerings. You might join the higher-than-normal price point complaint with a criticism of the game's replay value (once you beat the game, the only other offering is a speed run mode), but that's missing the point: Rarely do games - even in the $60 range - offer such a rich experience. Braid is stellar and a true accomplishment. It not only represents the potential for more creative and innovative titles to reach the masses via downloadable service, but it stands as a game you won't forget.

Braid is a game that everyone needs to experience to judge for themselves. It may not be for everyone since it requires a lot of trial and error with a lot of thought put behind the player’s next move. But it’s recommended that, one way or another, players at least try out Braid to see how brilliant it is.
Braid is a one of a kind XBL gem. While there are hundreds of games to choose from Braid will force you to think and force you to learn. It is a game of deep interest and rough learning that gives you that great feeling of accomplishment once you get it done. If your looking for something to pass your time and something that is worth the price tag of 1200 Microsoft points ($15 USD). What I have to say is if your looking for a game to get into and a game that will honestly catch you off guard, this is it. Braid offers innovation to the slide scrolling games of yesteryear with a ending that will leave you wondering...
Xbox 360Game Revolution
We've seen some videogames make small breakthroughs in terms of storytelling. ICO's emotional gameplay, Indigo Prophecy's cause and effect, BioShock's observation-driven storytelling, but they all lean upon techniques from other media to fill in the blanks in a way that mature media do not. Braid's integrates those media naturally and has interactivity play a central part. Whether Braid is art or just an extremely well-designed game, it is one of the best games of the year.
Xbox 360XBox Front
Without question, I will say that everyone who owns an Xbox 360 should at least download the Braid trial version to see what I can hardly explain here. I believe this gem could end up as a sleeper XBLA hit, because it combines fun gameplay with an absolutely exquisite appearance—not going too far to one side or the other that it dilutes form over function, or vice versa.
This PS3 port doesn't add in any new features and comes in well over a year after the game first debuted on the Xbox 360, but that doesn't make it any less of a recommendable experience. If this is your first chance to check out Braid, then give it a download; you won't be disappointed.
Xbox 360Blend Games
Portal, a darkly humorous puzzle first-person shooter is much different than an emo puzzle side-scroller but it's the only game I can think of that reminds me of Braid. I'm not going to go so far as to say Braid is as good as Portal but both are extremely gripping games filled with smart, innovative gameplay. Neither game will take many hours to complete but those few hours are dense and gratifying.
Xbox 360Good Game
If you look at Braid as a game of simple rules, it’s the items that ignore the rules that create the fun. Then the rules are twisted around and turned on their head to the point where it’ll blow your mind. I’m giving it 9/10
Every few years a game comes along that begins to push the gaming industry in a new and exciting direction. These games transcend entertainment and are in fact pieces of art. Inevitably, they are not commercially successful. Braid is a bit too cerebral for the average player and the puzzles of the later stages are so challenging they will likely frustrate users. That's a shame, too, because the ending is worth the arduous (if brief) journey. Without multiplayer or much replay value, the game is simple, focused, and raw in its flaunting of conventions. Unlikely ever to be remembered as fondly as Mario, Braid is six levels too clever for its own good.

However, like a good book, Braid is something to be experienced over and over again. While the puzzles in Braid are real brain-teasers, do not let that get in the way of at least downloading the demo to see for yourself. This game is important for every every genre of game, from the story of its one-man development to the axioms we take for granted in gaming being turned on their ear. Braid is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, and is guaranteed to be seen on “Top 10 PC game” lists this year.

Despite some minor shortfalls, Braid is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of indie gaming available and deserving of the acclaim it’s received from the 360 community. We’re just glad it’s come home to its native format.

It isn’t often that an original idea appears in so complete and successful a form, and given the weight of sequels and rehashes available on Live and full release it is refreshing to play something so inventive and addictive. If you’re hooked up to live, and have any interest in an old fashioned platform/puzzle game with genuinely original ideas, then download the live demo and give it a go. Chances are the full download will quickly follow.

The whole title is amazingly simple while being incredibly complex all at the same time. This title succeeds in almost every way and is definitely one of the shining examples of what we can hopefully expect from other independent titles. The only shortcoming of this title for some would probably be the length. It is a little on the short side, however the time you do spend in the world of Braid is amazing. This is a title that everyone must experience. Be sure to download it and show your support so that more independent titles can make their way to Xbox Live.

Braid in many ways is this year’s Portal; not in the obvious sense but in the way it has burst onto the scene snatching most hearts that have given it the time of day, with nothing but plucky charm. It is a title for the modern age with all the heart and soul of the 8bit/16bit era.
Xbox 360MS Xbox World
Braid is to date the best overall game I’ve played from the Xbox Live Arcade. I say this not only because the puzzles are fresh and creative, but the story has a meaning that actually invokes emotions the way a good book or movie can. The art and music design fit so well into this game and actually set the mood more than the story during the initial gameplay. The game shines so bright that the minor flaws are easily overlooked and forgotten as you strive to obtain your next puzzle piece. So is hefty 1200 Microsoft points price tag worthy of a single player game, well I’d be lying if I told you that Braid wouldn’t be a pleasant and permanent addition to your game’s library.
Xbox 360Game Vortex
Braid is not going to win everyone over. Some people already feel that it is a little pretentious for charging fifteen dollars on XBLA. The only thing that can be said is to play the game and decide for yourself. You may love it, you may hate it, but you cannot deny how unique it is. It is just a shame that Braid will probably go the same route as Okami and Zack and Wiki with critical acclaim, but with low sales numbers. Please play this game... or at least the demo for me.
When Xbox LIVE Arcade was announced there was this hope that it would be a platform for original, quirky games that would otherwise struggle to find a publisher. The service has certainly seen some incredibly high quality games (Geometry Wars 2 just last week is amazingly polished), but Braid finally fulfils that promise. It's a game like nothing you've ever played before and something we can't recommend highly enough.
Achterstevoren.
Braid joins Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 and Ikaruga as one of our favorite Xbox Live Arcade games of the year. Even with its short length and higher cost, it's a journey that's greater than the destination. You owe it to yourself to play a game this good.

In an age when many games feel like clones of one another or are designed to be easy to beat, Braid sticks to its guns and delivers a rewarding and memorable experience that's definitely worth checking out. It's like an invigorating breath of fresh air, and proof that a handful of independent developers can create games that raise the bar for others.
Xbox Live Arcade needs more games like Braid. Heck, gaming on all platforms needs more titles like this. Imaginative, innovative, and engrossing, Braid is a spectacular achievement. If only the experience lasted a little longer and there weren't as many puzzles with singular solutions. Despite its short length and robust pricing ($15), Braid is definitely worth downloading.

Bottom line is that this game is not for everybody, but is a very delightful and engaging little title. It is a very unique game that is definitely worth your time and money. I downloaded the trial game and unlocked the full version before I was even finished with the trial. Give it a try, support an indie game developer, and discover the clever story twist.

But for the most part, Braid is a great game that will force you to flex your mental muscle; in a way, it’s similar to something like echochrome, simply because you have to “bend” your mind into a certain shape before you can fully comprehend the skewed setting and premise. Our minds simply weren’t designed to work this way, which can almost be counted as a strike against this particular title…but I don’t wanna do that. It sounds far too much like whining and the bottom line is that we probably need more games like Braid. Even the story, which isn’t just about finding the princess, but rectifying a past wrong, is timeless and intriguing. The game is called “Braid” because when the princess turned away from Tim in scorn after Tim said some hurtful things, her braid hit him in the face. See? Artistic throughout. Many will appreciate it but don’t be surprised if you find yourself staring at the screen in utter consternation for long stretches of time…
Xbox 360Gamer 2.0
When it comes down to it, Braid’s very much one of those artsy games with an impactful story that can be something for people to talk about for a long time, which certainly lasts more than the game requires to beat it. The game can take maybe four hours or so for people that are slow to the draw and an hour or two for the smarter people out there. There’s not much replay value to the game outside of maybe the speed run mode, which just emphasizes how quickly the game can be beaten. For $15, it’s extremely hard to put up a solid recommendation for a definite purchase, but luckily the demo gives you a few of the worlds to see if you like the action yourself. As a discussion piece and an indie game showcase, Braid’s very much worth the price, but as just a game, there are certainly better places to put your money if you prefer more traditional experiences over something new and unique. There’s one thing that’s for sure, you need to download the demo just to see what all the fuss is about.

Braid is a beautiful, smart and challenging game and certainly worth checking out. Although the difficulty can be a little surprising at times, the overall experience is rewarding enough to warrant working through the puzzles.

In the end, if you like puzzle games or platform games in any way shape form, you should probably buy Braid.
Xbox 360Worth Playing
So there you have it. I don't want to ruin the story for anyone who hasn't played Braid yet, but it's really worth playing. It's not perfect, but for every bad lock puzzle and oddly written narrative, the "a-ha" moment of solving a tricky puzzle makes up for it. The music is great, the art and design are unique, and the whole scope of the game is something to which independent developers and XBLA programmers can aspire. Hopefully, we'll see a Braid II out of this, or perhaps it'll spark other designers to follow suit with some original and imaginative content.
At the end of the day, no matter what I have to say about Braid that makes Mr. Blow cry into his pillow at night, you really should play this game. It’s not going to be something that you’ll find yourself playing for hours on end, and it’s not going to be the game you turn to every time you need to rest your vocal chords after a set of Rock Band 2. It’s more to say you’ve experienced one of the most unique games ever to see the light on this console generation, and although it’s nowhere near Portal perfection, you may begin to find your thumb twitching for the rewind button every time you screw up a test, or miss the toilet, or knock up your wife.
I liked Braid, but the game made me feel uneasy. It has the right atmosphere and the right gameplay, but it somehow feels wrong. Maybe this is the way we are supposed to feel after the finale, and if so, the creator has hit the mark. In any case, Braid is a great throwback to the past and a great title that shows the evolution of games in a period of 20 years.
You might remember that we rather enjoyed Braid back in the day. Well, now you can pick up Jonathan Blow's excellent time-shifting platform-puzzler for next to nothing on the Mac App Store. Although brilliant and cheap downloadable titles seem to be ten-a-penny right now, this hasn't dated at all, and if you missed out on it first time around, don't make the same mistake again.
That said, it’s about the only thing wrong with Braid, and is more than forgivable amongst the accomplished majority of the puzzles. Other touches like the ending, perplexing plot, gorgeous backdrops and exquisite score serve to strengthen the experience beyond just solid platform-puzzler. To call Braid a throwback to the 16-bit era would be to some extent fallacious, for it’s a new breed of 2D platformer. It doesn’t just copy a certain plumber’s early adventures verbatim like so many before it – some of them excellent in their own right – did, but seeks to plant the seeds of growth that the genre has lacked for so many years in showing that, by imprinting its own identity on a well weathered template, incredible things can happen.

Despite the occasionally high frustration levels of Braid, the game is cleverly designed and often very rewarding. Knowing that your skills are steadily improving with each and every piece obtained is an extremely gratifying experience and should keep most players engaged until Braid’s unexpected climax. Braid is a great example of non-conventional game design and although it isn’t perfect, it’s definitely worth making some time for.
Braid is different in a decent way. It is nice to see game developers think outside the box and create a more involved game that will take some time to finish. However, in my opinion, games should be somewhat more exciting. This game certainly had its exciting moments, but most of the time the user was just left to figure something out. While I believe this is what the developers had in mind, I think they didn’t quite nail the combination 100%. They were close enough, though, for me to encourage you to try our Braid.

Die-hard fanatics of platformers should download the demo of Braid and check it out before pulling the 1200 point trigger. The rest of the gaming population needs to wait for Microsoft to reduce the price or find some Marketplace points on sale before purchasing Braid.
It's hard to single out the aspects of this game as all of them add to the general experience and compliment each other. The sound, by itself, may not be appreciated enough as it does when complimented by the superb art direction and mystery surrounding the games story. So for this reason "Braid" is a unique experience that has been perfectly pieced together and will no doubt be referred to as one of the gems on XBLA. The game, although short, offers a very unique experience that should be played by everyone. Although the price tag for the game is a little steep (1.200 MS points), it is definitely worth it, having said that it would've been nice for a little something more for the price. The graphics are a thing of beauty and the sound adds to mystery and feel of the game. All in all a superb and welcomed package on XBLA.
